S3 Studio and Thermite Games put you in charge of a fallen clan in an ancient China setting, starting from a crumbling estate on 14 May 2025 in Early Access. You marry family members off, push them through imperial exams, build income properties and outlast roughly 30 rival noble houses across generations. Characters are defined by eight attributes and die of old age, so the clan matters more than any single person in it.

House of Legacy features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.

Family Estate: Starting Area

The crumbling compound you inherit at the start and rebuild from over 200 available building components. Everything else in the game flows from how quickly you turn it into something that generates income.

What to Do Here

Provincial Capital: Early Game

The administrative centre of each province, where appointed officials handle taxes, military affairs and public order. Prosperity here rises with player shops, public shops and market stalls.

What to Do Here

  • Focus on mastering Generational family succession. It's critical from this point on.
  • Farm for Exchange if you don't have it yet.
  • Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
  • Prepare for the difficulty spike in County.

County: Mid Game

The subdivision beneath a province, holding its own governance and a slice of the population. Counties are where mid-tier appointments sit and where a rising family typically gets its first real authority.

Fief: Late Game

Land granted to your clan that produces tax income shaped by the laws you enact. Population growth depends on how flourishing the settlement is, and discontent at 70 or above tips it into rebellion.

What to Do Here

  • Full build optimization is expected by this point.
  • Smithy should be your primary, fully upgraded.
  • Fief taxes and discontent mastery starts mattering here.
  • Farm resources for the push into Military Camp.

Military Camp: Endgame

The recruitment site inside a fief where a personal army is raised and maintained. Materials for strengthening troops are cheapest when bought through an Exchange rather than sourced locally.

What to Do Here

  • This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
  • See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
  • The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
  • Experiment with Cunning for variety once you've mastered the meta.

Exploration Tips

  1. Clear areas in order: Family Estate → Provincial Capital → County → Fief → Military Camp. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
  2. Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
  3. Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
  4. Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
  5. Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
