Tundra's debut roguelike takes FTL's paused ship combat and drops it into a techno-gothic future where the Solar Empire worships the Immortal God King Hyperion and three Ruinous Cults want the same prize you do. A run crosses exactly six sectors and the sixth is always the Imperial Coreworlds, whose final node is the Vault of Souls. Every playable hull carries 30 hull points and room for at most nine installed systems, and the only ship unlocked when you start is Imperial Cruiser A, the Triumph of Heaven. Crew come from seven human factions with more than seventy distinct types between them, so boarding parties are built rather than drafted.
Boss fights are where Void War tests everything you've learned. This guide covers strategies for bosses across all areas, organized by progression order. For general combat techniques, see our combat guide.

Protostar Wastes Bosses
Area difficulty: Easy Recommended level: Sector 1 through 4, can repeat Recommended build: Raider Clans with Beam Armaments
Strategy
The first bosses teach core combat mechanics. Focus on learning patterns rather than dealing damage. Systems do nothing until the Reactor feeds them, and no hull accepts more than nine installed systems, so every purchase is also a decision about what you will never fit. This is your primary tool here.
Key tips:
- Don't rush. Learn the attack patterns first.
- Use Reactor power across nine system slots to create safe windows.
- Beam Armaments is enough to handle everything here.
Raider Clanworlds Bosses
Area difficulty: Moderate Recommended level: Sector 2 through 5 Recommended build: Raider Clans with Beam Armaments
Strategy
Early game bosses test your understanding of Cannons, beams, lances and missile templates. Players who skipped learning this mechanic will hit a wall here.
Key tips:
- Cannons, beams, lances and missile templates is critical for these fights.
- Farm Beam Armaments upgrades if you're struggling.
- Consider switching to Raider Clans if your current setup isn't working.
Imperial Shrineworlds Bosses
Area difficulty: Hard Recommended level: Sector 2 through 5 Recommended build: The Empire with Cannons
Strategy
Mid-game bosses are the major skill check. They combine multiple mechanics and punish players who rely on a single strategy.
Key tips:
- You need both Reactor power across nine system slots and Boarding actions with faction crew and wargear mastery.
- Cannons makes a significant difference. Get it before attempting these.
- See our combat guide for advanced techniques.
Forge Enclaves Bosses
Area difficulty: Very Hard Recommended level: Sector 3 through 5 Recommended build: The Empire with Cannons
Strategy
Late-game bosses are serious challenges. Build optimization matters as much as mechanical skill.
Key tips:
- Make sure your build is fully optimized.
- Cannons at max upgrade is recommended.
- Study each boss's attack patterns. Most have 2-3 phases.
Imperial Coreworlds Bosses
Area difficulty: Extreme Recommended level: Sector 6, final Recommended build: The Empire with Cannons
Strategy
Endgame bosses are the ultimate test. They require mastery of all combat systems and an optimized build.
Key tips:
- Top-tier build with best-in-slot gear is mandatory.
- Master every mechanic. See our combat guide.
- These fights reward patience and pattern recognition above all else.
General Boss Tips
- Learn before you fight: Spend your first attempt observing attack patterns. Don't try to win on attempt one.
- Match your build: Some bosses favor certain builds over others. Don't be afraid to switch.
- Upgrade your equipment: A max-upgraded Cannons trivializes fights that seem impossible with weaker gear.
- Use Reactor power across nine system slots: The core combat mechanic is your best defensive tool in every boss fight.
- Check the walkthrough: Our walkthrough tells you when you're ready for each boss.
