Wuthering Waves is Kuro Games' open-world action RPG that directly competes with Genshin Impact but differentiates itself with a faster, more skill-based combat system and the unique Echo collection mechanic. The game launched on PC and mobile in May 2024 and has rapidly expanded its roster and endgame content. Its Echo system — where you absorb defeated enemy abilities and equip them as passive stat sources — replaces the artifact grind found in similar games. The darker sci-fi aesthetic and emphasis on aerial combat combos give Wuthering Waves its own identity in the gacha RPG space.
This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. Follow this path to avoid common traps that stall most players.

| 2. Early | Huanglong | resonance chains mastery | Jiyan | 3-5 hours |

| 5. Endgame | Tiger's Maw | Min-max | Rover or Encore | Ongoing |
Phase 1: Getting Started — Jinzhou
The starting city and main hub with crafting stations, shops, and the Souvenir Store for exploration rewards. Most early-game quests center here. The surrounding areas contain low-level Echoes and materials.
Level/Difficulty: Union Level 1-20 Key Rewards: Starter Echo farming, basic upgrade materials, main story progression
What to Do in Jinzhou
- Learn echo system. Echoes are absorbed from defeated enemies and function as equippable stat pieces, similar to artifacts in Genshin Impact. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
- Pick Jiyan as your starting build. It's the most forgiving option.
- Soft pity starts at pull 66 on character banners. Save at least 80 pulls before starting a banner you want to guarantee.
- Acquire your first equipment upgrade — Swords or whatever's available.
- Clear all main content before moving on.
Phase 1 Checklist
- Understand echo system fundamentals
- Jiyan selected and functional
- Jinzhou main content cleared
- Ready for Huanglong
Phase 2: Early Game — Huanglong
A sprawling region with diverse biomes ranging from forests to ruins. Dense with Elite enemy spawns for farming high-quality Echoes. Contains several Tacet Field domains for targeted Echo farming.
Level/Difficulty: Union Level 15-35 Key Rewards: Elite Echo farming, Tacet Field access, Shell Credit farming
What to Do in Huanglong
- Work on resonance chains. When you swap characters mid-combo, the outgoing character triggers their Outro Skill and the incoming character triggers their Intro Skill, creating a Resonance Chain. This system becomes critical from here on.
- Farm for Swords if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
- Echo farming is more efficient in the overworld than in Tacet Fields for most sets. Tacet Fields are only better for specific targeted pieces.
- Complete all objectives before pushing to Court of Savantae.
- Consider whether Rover might suit your playstyle better than Jiyan.
Phase 2 Checklist
- resonance chains integrated into gameplay
- Swords acquired
- Huanglong fully cleared
- Ready for Court of Savantae
Phase 3: Mid Game — Court of Savantae
Endgame area introduced in later patches with the highest-difficulty content. The Tower of Adversity challenge mode is located here, offering weekly rewards for clearing floors.
Level/Difficulty: Union Level 35+ Key Rewards: Tower of Adversity rewards, premium currency, weekly challenge materials
What to Do in Court of Savantae
- Master open world exploration. The map features parkour traversal with wall-running, grappling hooks, and gliding across a post-apocalyptic landscape. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
- Start working toward Broadblades. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
- Verina fits every team. If you pull her early, invest fully — she remains best-in-slot healer even at endgame.
- This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
- Start investing in gacha characters for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.
Phase 3 Checklist
- open world exploration mastered
- Broadblades acquired or in progress
- Court of Savantae fully cleared
- Ready for Dim Forest
Phase 4: Late Game — Dim Forest
A dark, atmospheric zone with strong Tacet Discords. The dense canopy creates visibility challenges that make exploration tense. Several hidden caves contain rare Echo spawn points.
Level/Difficulty: Union Level 20-30 Key Rewards: Rare Echo spawns, hidden exploration chests, character ascension materials
What to Do in Dim Forest
- Finalize your build. You should be running Rover or Jiyan with optimized gear.
- Broadblades should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
- Crit Rate should reach 50-60% before stacking Crit DMG. A 1:2 ratio of Rate to DMG is the general optimization target.
- stamina combat optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
- Farm this area for the resources needed to push into Tiger's Maw.
Phase 4 Checklist
- Build fully optimized
- Broadblades upgraded to max
- Dim Forest fully cleared
- Ready for Tiger's Maw
Phase 5: Endgame — Tiger's Maw
A canyon area with verticality-focused exploration and challenging platforming sections. The main boss here drops materials needed for broadblade character ascension.
Level/Difficulty: Union Level 25-35 Key Rewards: Broadblade ascension materials, exploration Astrite, Resonance Beacon unlocks
What to Do in Tiger's Maw
- Tiger's Maw tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
- Resonance Chain combos (Outro into Intro) deal more damage than most people realize. Build teams around complementary chain skills.
- The endgame loop: run Tiger's Maw, optimize gear, push harder content.
- Experiment with Encore for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
- This is where stamina combat mastery separates good players from great ones.
Phase 5 Checklist
- Endgame content on farm
- Best-in-slot gear acquired
- Tiger's Maw fully cleared
- Ready for challenge content
Common Progression Mistakes
- Spreading resources across too many characters early on. Focus on 1 main DPS, 1 healer, and 1 sub-DPS to clear content efficiently before diversifying.
- Ignoring Echo sub-stat quality and equipping any Echo with the right set. A 4-cost Echo with double Crit sub-stats is worth more than a full set bonus with bad sub-stats.
- Pulling on every banner instead of saving for specific characters. The pity system rewards patience — 80 pulls guarantees a featured 5-star.
- Neglecting stamina dodge management in boss fights. Running out of stamina during a boss combo is the most common cause of death at high difficulty.
- Skipping the Sonar scan while exploring. It highlights nearby collectibles including hidden chests and Echo spawn points within a large radius.
Key Tips for Smooth Progression
- Soft pity starts at pull 66 on character banners. Save at least 80 pulls before starting a banner you want to guarantee.
- Echo farming is more efficient in the overworld than in Tacet Fields for most sets. Tacet Fields are only better for specific targeted pieces.
- Verina fits every team. If you pull her early, invest fully — she remains best-in-slot healer even at endgame.
- Crit Rate should reach 50-60% before stacking Crit DMG. A 1:2 ratio of Rate to DMG is the general optimization target.
- Resonance Chain combos (Outro into Intro) deal more damage than most people realize. Build teams around complementary chain skills.
