This is not the co-op shooter. Funday Games built Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor as a top down single player auto shooter under Ghost Ship Publishing, entering Early Access on 14 February 2024 and reaching 1.0 on 17 September 2025. You still play a dwarf on Hoxxes, still mine Nitra and Gold and still get pulled out by a Drop Pod, but nobody aims: your weapons fire on their own while you drive the dwarf around the cave and dig through terrain. A dive is five stages, each with a Supply Drop and an Elite, and stage five ends with a Dreadnought. The Heavy Duty Expansion of 30 April 2026 added the Demolisher, a fifth class riding a weaponised bulldozer.
Boss fights are where Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor tests everything you've learned. This guide covers strategies for bosses across all areas, organized by progression order. For general combat techniques, see our combat guide.

Crystalline Caverns Bosses
Area difficulty: Easy Recommended level: Hazard 1 to 5, default enemy difficulty Recommended build: Gunner with "Lead Storm" Powered Minigun
Strategy
The first bosses teach core combat mechanics. Focus on learning patterns rather than dealing damage. Every weapon fires by itself, so the only inputs that matter are where you move and what you dig. This is your primary tool here.
Key tips:
- Don't rush. Learn the attack patterns first.
- Use Auto firing weapons and manual mining to create safe windows.
- "Lead Storm" Powered Minigun is enough to handle everything here.
Magma Core Bosses
Area difficulty: Moderate Recommended level: Hazard 1 to 5, enemies at 5 percent extra health and damage Recommended build: Gunner with "Lead Storm" Powered Minigun
Strategy
Early game bosses test your understanding of Five stage dives and Supply Drops. Players who skipped learning this mechanic will hit a wall here.
Key tips:
- Five stage dives and Supply Drops is critical for these fights.
- Farm "Lead Storm" Powered Minigun upgrades if you're struggling.
- Consider switching to Gunner if your current setup isn't working.
Hollow Bough Bosses
Area difficulty: Hard Recommended level: Hazard 1 to 5, enemies at 10 percent extra health and damage Recommended build: Scout with Deepcore GK2
Strategy
Mid-game bosses are the major skill check. They combine multiple mechanics and punish players who rely on a single strategy.
Key tips:
- You need both Auto firing weapons and manual mining and Overclocks at weapon levels 6, 12 and 18 mastery.
- Deepcore GK2 makes a significant difference. Get it before attempting these.
- See our combat guide for advanced techniques.
Salt Pits Bosses
Area difficulty: Very Hard Recommended level: Hazard 1 to 5, enemies at 15 percent extra health and damage Recommended build: Scout with Deepcore GK2
Strategy
Late-game bosses are serious challenges. Build optimization matters as much as mechanical skill.
Key tips:
- Make sure your build is fully optimized.
- Deepcore GK2 at max upgrade is recommended.
- Study each boss's attack patterns. Most have 2-3 phases.
Azure Weald Bosses
Area difficulty: Extreme Recommended level: Hazard 1 to 5, periodic spawn waves Recommended build: Scout with Deepcore GK2
Strategy
Endgame bosses are the ultimate test. They require mastery of all combat systems and an optimized build.
Key tips:
- Top-tier build with best-in-slot gear is mandatory.
- Master every mechanic. See our combat guide.
- These fights reward patience and pattern recognition above all else.
General Boss Tips
- Learn before you fight: Spend your first attempt observing attack patterns. Don't try to win on attempt one.
- Match your build: Some bosses favor certain builds over others. Don't be afraid to switch.
- Upgrade your equipment: A max-upgraded Deepcore GK2 trivializes fights that seem impossible with weaker gear.
- Use Auto firing weapons and manual mining: The core combat mechanic is your best defensive tool in every boss fight.
- Check the walkthrough: Our walkthrough tells you when you're ready for each boss.
