Escape Simulator Equipment Guide — Best Equipment Ranked

Complete Escape Simulator equipment guide. Every equipment option ranked with stats, best builds, and how to get them.

Escape Simulator brings the escape room experience to your PC with physics-based puzzle rooms you can solve solo or with friends. The game features 20+ official rooms spanning themes from pirate ships to space stations, plus a massive community workshop with thousands of player-created rooms. Puzzles involve finding hidden objects, cracking codes, combining items, and manipulating physics objects. The co-op implementation is excellent — up to 8 players can collaborate on a room, splitting up to solve different puzzles simultaneously.

Your choice of equipment defines your damage output and playstyle. This guide ranks every major option, explains what makes each one strong, and tells you which builds they pair best with.

S-Tier: Key Items

Keys are the most common progression items — found hidden in drawers, behind paintings, or assembled from multiple pieces. Each key opens a specific lock, revealing the next puzzle section. Some keys are physical (metal keys), others are metaphorical (passwords, combinations).

Best builds using Key Items: Pairs naturally with Solo Player thanks to stat scaling synergies.

A-Tier: Combination Locks

Number-based locks requiring codes found through environmental investigation. Codes hide in paintings, book titles, clocks, and mathematical relationships between objects. The satisfaction of cracking a code after 10 minutes of searching is Escape Simulator's core appeal.

A-Tier: Hidden Buttons

Some walls, objects, and furniture contain hidden interactive buttons that reveal secret compartments. Examining objects from unusual angles, looking under tables, and checking behind wall decorations reveals these hidden interactions. The physics system lets you flip objects to check undersides.

Equipment Progression Path

The order you should acquire equipment as you progress:

  1. Starting gear → Enough to clear Prison Break
  2. Combination Locks → Your first real upgrade, available early
  3. Hidden Buttons → Mid-game upgrade with good scaling
  4. Key Items → Best-in-slot, aim for this by late game
  5. Upgrade to max → The power spike from max upgrades is enormous

Equipment Tips

  • Always upgrade your primary equipment before diversifying — one strong option beats three mediocre ones.
  • Match your equipment to your build's stat priorities for maximum scaling.
  • Examine every object by picking it up and rotating it — small details on object undersides, backs, and interiors often contain codes or clues that aren't visible at a glance.
  • Check our tier list for how equipment rankings affect overall build effectiveness.
