Fishing Planet LLC launched this free-to-play fishing simulator on 11 August 2015 and it now covers 27 waterways modelled on real fisheries from Texas to Missouri to Oregon. Every catch runs through a physics model where line strength, hook size, drag setting and rod action all decide whether a fish lands or snaps you off. Progression is levels and credits, with BaitCoins sold separately for players who want to skip the grind.
Boss fights are where Fishing Planet tests everything you've learned. This guide covers strategies for bosses across all areas, organized by progression order. For general combat techniques, see our combat guide.
Boss Difficulty Overview
Lone Star Lake, Texas Bosses
Area difficulty: Easy Recommended level: Starting waterway, level 1 Recommended build: Spin fishing with Baitcasting rod with a low profile reel
Strategy
The first bosses teach core combat mechanics. Focus on learning patterns rather than dealing damage. The three core disciplines each need their own rod, reel and terminal tackle and each catches a different slice of the species list. This is your primary tool here.
Key tips:
- Don't rush. Learn the attack patterns first.
- Use Float, spin and bottom methods to create safe windows.
- Baitcasting rod with a low profile reel is enough to handle everything here.
Mudwater River, Missouri Bosses
Area difficulty: Moderate Recommended level: Unlocks around level 4 Recommended build: Spin fishing with Baitcasting rod with a low profile reel
Strategy
Early game bosses test your understanding of Balanced tackle requirements. Players who skipped learning this mechanic will hit a wall here.
Key tips:
- Balanced tackle requirements is critical for these fights.
- Farm Baitcasting rod with a low profile reel upgrades if you're struggling.
- Consider switching to Spin fishing if your current setup isn't working.
Emerald Lake, New York Bosses
Area difficulty: Hard Recommended level: Unlocks around level 8 Recommended build: Float fishing with Light spinning rod with a 1000 size reel
Strategy
Mid-game bosses are the major skill check. They combine multiple mechanics and punish players who rely on a single strategy.
Key tips:
- You need both Float, spin and bottom methods and Drag control during the fight mastery.
- Light spinning rod with a 1000 size reel makes a significant difference. Get it before attempting these.
- See our combat guide for advanced techniques.
Falcon Lake, Oregon Bosses
Area difficulty: Very Hard Recommended level: Unlocks around level 14 Recommended build: Float fishing with Light spinning rod with a 1000 size reel
Strategy
Late-game bosses are serious challenges. Build optimization matters as much as mechanical skill.
Key tips:
- Make sure your build is fully optimized.
- Light spinning rod with a 1000 size reel at max upgrade is recommended.
- Study each boss's attack patterns. Most have 2-3 phases.
Everglades, Florida Bosses
Area difficulty: Extreme Recommended level: Unlocks around level 18 Recommended build: Float fishing with Light spinning rod with a 1000 size reel
Strategy
Endgame bosses are the ultimate test. They require mastery of all combat systems and an optimized build.
Key tips:
- Top-tier build with best-in-slot gear is mandatory.
- Master every mechanic. See our combat guide.
- These fights reward patience and pattern recognition above all else.
General Boss Tips
- Learn before you fight: Spend your first attempt observing attack patterns. Don't try to win on attempt one.
- Match your build: Some bosses favor certain builds over others. Don't be afraid to switch.
- Upgrade your equipment: A max-upgraded Light spinning rod with a 1000 size reel trivializes fights that seem impossible with weaker gear.
- Use Float, spin and bottom methods: The core combat mechanic is your best defensive tool in every boss fight.
- Check the walkthrough: Our walkthrough tells you when you're ready for each boss.
