RobTop's Geometry Dash is a rhythm platformer where a single input, tap or hold, is the entire control scheme, and every obstacle kills instantly. Update 2.2 landed on Steam on 19 December 2023, adding the Swing gamemode, a free movement Platformer mode and the main level Dash. The real game is the level editor, which has produced millions of user levels including the Extreme Demons that take players months of attempts.
Your choice of weapons defines your damage output and playstyle. This guide ranks every major option, explains what makes each one strong, and tells you which builds they pair best with.
Weapons Rankings
| Weapon | Tier | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cube | S | Learning core timing, since almost every level opens in Cube form. | The default form, where tapping jumps and holding chains jumps off successive surfaces. |
| Ship | A | Corridor sections and any level with sustained flight, including large parts of Clubstep. | Holding lifts and releasing drops, with momentum carrying through both. |
| Wave | A | Precision spam sections; practise it separately because it shares almost nothing with Cube timing. | A triangle that moves at a fixed diagonal and reverses direction the instant you tap or release. |
| Robot | B | Variable height platform sections where you must clear gaps of different sizes in sequence. | Jump height scales with how long you hold the input, so the same obstacle can need a tap or a full hold. |
| Swing | B | Recent 2.2 era levels; expect it in almost any level rated after December 2023. | Added in 2. |
S-Tier: Cube
The default form, where tapping jumps and holding chains jumps off successive surfaces. Rings, pads and gravity portals extend it, which makes it the gamemode with the most varied obstacle design.

|---|---|
| Tier | S |
| Best For | Learning core timing, since almost every level opens in Cube form. |
| Key Mechanic | One input rhythm timing |
| Recommended Role | Normal |
How to get it: Available from mid-game onward. See our walkthrough for the exact progression point.
Best builds using Cube: Pairs naturally with Normal thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.
A-Tier: Ship
Holding lifts and releasing drops, with momentum carrying through both. Straight flying sections punish over correcting more than they punish slow reactions.

|---|---|
| Tier | A |
| Best For | Corridor sections and any level with sustained flight, including large parts of Clubstep. |
| Key Mechanic | Gamemode portals |
| Recommended Role | Harder |
How to get it: Accessible in the early-to-mid game. Check our maps guide for the location.
Best builds using Ship: Pairs naturally with Harder thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.
A-Tier: Wave
A triangle that moves at a fixed diagonal and reverses direction the instant you tap or release. Tight wave corridors are the single most common wall for players approaching Demon difficulty.

| Tier | A |
| Best For | Precision spam sections; practise it separately because it shares almost nothing with Cube timing. |
| Key Mechanic | Practice Mode checkpoints |
| Recommended Role | Insane |
How to get it: Accessible in the early-to-mid game. Check our maps guide for the location.
Best builds using Wave: Pairs naturally with Insane thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.
B-Tier: Robot
Jump height scales with how long you hold the input, so the same obstacle can need a tap or a full hold. It is the most forgiving gamemode to read and the easiest to fumble under pressure.

|---|---|
| Tier | B |
| Best For | Variable height platform sections where you must clear gaps of different sizes in sequence. |
| Key Mechanic | Level editor and user levels |
| Recommended Role | Hard Demon |
How to get it: Found in later areas. Our walkthrough covers when you can access this.
Best builds using Robot: Pairs naturally with Hard Demon thanks to how their stat scaling lines up.
B-Tier: Swing
Added in 2.2, Swing flips gravity with each input rather than lifting you, producing a zigzag path. Holding sustains the swing, which makes it feel closer to Wave than to Ship.

|---|---|
| Tier | B |
| Best For | Recent 2.2 era levels; expect it in almost any level rated after December 2023. |
| Key Mechanic | Platformer mode |
| Recommended Role | Extreme Demon |

Weapons Progression Path
The order you should acquire weapons as you progress:
- Starting gear → Enough to clear Stereo Madness
- Ship → Your first real upgrade, available early
- Wave → Mid-game upgrade with good scaling
- Cube → Best-in-slot, aim for this by late game
- Upgrade to max → The power spike from max upgrades is enormous
Weapons Tips
- Always upgrade your primary weapon before diversifying. One strong option beats three mediocre ones.
- Match your weapons to your build's stat priorities for maximum scaling.
- Practice Mode is not optional at any difficulty above about ten stars. Place checkpoints just before each hard section, learn the section in isolation, then remove checkpoints and run the level whole. Players who skip this stage plateau early.
- Check our tier list for how weapons rankings affect overall build effectiveness.
