Weapons Analysis

Roman Cancel: The core Tension spender at 50 percent per use, with Red, Purple, Blue and Yellow versions covering offence, recovery cancelling, neutral and defence.

Psych Burst: The Burst gauge escape that knocks the opponent away mid combo. Spending it leaves you with no gauge for Deflect Shield or Counter Blitz until it refills.

Faultless Defense: A Tension draining block that removes chip damage and increases pushback, held by blocking with two attack buttons.

Wall Break: Not a move but a state: corner damage builds the wall, and breaking it moves the fight to a new area and awards Positive Bonus to the attacker.

Counter Blitz: Added in Version 2.00 on 9 April 2026. It costs 50 percent of the Burst gauge during counter hit slow down on a cancelable normal and triggers a Wall Break if the last hit connects near the corner.

Meta Analysis

The current meta in GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- centers on Tension and the four Roman Cancels and Wall Break and Positive Bonus. Builds that leverage both systems outperform those that focus on only one. Our combat guide explains these interactions in depth.

What's strong right now:

  • Rushdown with Roman Cancel is the benchmark. Everything else is measured against it.
  • Burst gauge, Psych Burst and Counter Blitz builds are gaining ground as players find new combinations.
  • Grappler remains essential for learning hard content. See the boss guide.

What's underrated:

  • Zoner is consistently overlooked despite being the most flexible option.
  • Faultless Defense offers excellent performance for its investment level.

What's overhyped:

  • Pure All-rounder builds. High ceiling but the consistency isn't there for most players.
