Hello Kitty Island Adventure is Sunblink's open world cosy game, which arrived on Steam on 30 January 2025 after starting life on Apple Arcade. You crash land on Friendship Island, meet more than forty Sanrio characters, and restore the place by cooking, crafting, gardening, fishing, catching critters and solving puzzle ruins. The hook that separates it from other cosy games is the companion system: raising friendship with a character unlocks a power that follows you around, so Chococat gives a thirty per cent chance of extra crafts at any bench and Badtz-maru makes fishing land more often. Regions gate behind traversal tools rather than levels, so Flippers unlock swimming, the Snorkel unlocks diving and Balloons let you glide down from height. Sunblink advertises more than eighty hours of quests across eight regions, and the completionist tail runs well past that.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.

Seaside Resort: Starting Area

The starting region and the social hub, connected to the rest of the island by a path winding over sandy beaches. Most early quests, the first cabins you renovate and the easiest fishing spots are here.

Spooky Swamp: Early Game

Murky, overgrown and home to critters and materials you will not find on the beaches. It is one of the first regions past the resort and it introduces the idea that some areas want a specific tool before they cooperate.

What to Do Here

  • Focus on mastering Traversal tools gating regions. It's critical from this point on.
  • Farm for Fishing Rod if you don't have it yet.
  • Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
  • Prepare for the difficulty spike in Gemstone Mountain.

Gemstone Mountain: Mid Game

Vertical and layered, which makes it the region where Balloons stop being a novelty and start being the intended route. Gem and mineral gathering here feeds the crafting bench for the rest of the game.

Mount Hothead: Late Game

The volcanic region, complete with lava that will punish careless routing. Steamy weather days change what spawns here, so it rewards checking the forecast before you commit to a trip.

What to Do Here

  • Full build optimization is expected by this point.
  • Net should be your primary, fully upgraded.
  • Weather events and year round festivals mastery starts mattering here.
  • Farm resources for the push into Rainbow Reef.

Rainbow Reef: Endgame

The underwater region, and the clearest example of tool gating in the game. Anyone with a Snorkel can tour it, and without one you are looking at the surface of a whole region you cannot enter.

What to Do Here

  • This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
  • See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
  • The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
  • Experiment with Kuromi for variety once you've mastered the meta.

Exploration Tips

  1. Clear areas in order: Seaside Resort → Spooky Swamp → Gemstone Mountain → Mount Hothead → Rainbow Reef. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
  2. Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
  3. Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
  4. Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
  5. Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
