Last Epoch Classes & Characters — Complete Guide

Every Last Epoch build and class explained. Strengths, weaknesses, best gear, and which to pick for your playstyle.

Last Epoch is Eleventh Hour Games' action RPG featuring time-travel across four eras, deep skill customization through the specialization system, and a deterministic crafting system that respects your time. Unlike PoE's complexity or Diablo's simplicity, Last Epoch hits a middle ground with intuitive but deep systems. Each of the 5 base classes has 3 mastery subclasses with unique skill trees, and the Monolith of Fate endgame provides scaling content with meaningful loot. The game launched 1.0 in February 2024 with multiplayer, trade, and cycle (seasonal) play.

Choosing the right build shapes your entire experience. This guide breaks down every option — what they're good at, what they struggle with, and which one matches your playstyle. For optimized builds with full gear sets, see our builds guide.

Which Build Should You Pick?

For Beginners

Mage is the clear winner. It's forgiving, teaches core mechanics, and remains competitive into endgame. Follow our beginner's guide for the best first-session experience.

For Maximum Performance

Sentinel is the top pick once you understand the game's mechanics. Pair it with Exsanguinous for the strongest overall setup.

For a Challenge

Acolyte offers the highest skill ceiling. It's punishing when misplayed but incredibly rewarding when mastered. Only recommended after you've completed the game with another build.

For Group Play

Rogue shines in cooperative content with utility and team support capabilities.
