Path of Exile Crafting Guide — Resources, Recipes & Priorities

Path of Exile crafting guide covering resource gathering, upgrade priorities, crafting recipes, and efficiency tips.

Path of Exile is Grinding Gear Games' free-to-play action RPG that has defined the genre for over a decade with its extraordinary depth. The game features a passive skill tree with 1,300+ nodes, a gem system where skills are literal items socketed into gear, and a barter-based economy using currency orbs instead of gold. With quarterly league launches adding entirely new mechanics, endgame systems including the Atlas of Worlds with 100+ map tiers, and uber boss encounters that test the most optimized builds, PoE offers effectively infinite replayability.

Resource management and crafting determine how quickly your power scales. This guide covers what to prioritize, where to farm, and how to avoid wasting resources on the wrong upgrades.

Upgrade Path

Early Game (Wraeclast — Karui Shores)

  1. Upgrade your starting equipment to functional level
  2. Craft basic defensive gear
  3. Save specialty materials — you'll need them later
  4. Focus on Mageblood once accessible

Mid Game (Atlas of Worlds)

  1. Push Mageblood to mid-level upgrades
  2. Start collecting materials for Headhunter Belt
  3. Craft situational consumables for boss fights
  4. Upgrade build-specific gear pieces

Late Game (Maven's Arena — Forbidden Sanctum)

  1. Max out Headhunter Belt — this is your top priority
  2. Complete your build's core gear set
  3. Craft endgame consumables
  4. Optional: upgrade secondary equipment for variety

Crafting Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Spreading upgrades across multiple equipment — Focus one weapon to max before diversifying.
  2. Hoarding materials — Use them. The game provides enough if you farm efficiently.
  3. Upgrading the wrong gear — Check our builds guide before investing.
  4. Ignoring Atlas of Worlds farming — This area has the best resource-to-time ratio in mid-game.
  5. Crafting consumables too early — Save specialty materials for late-game recipes.

Resource Efficiency Tips

  • Cap resistances at 75% before maps — elemental damage in maps kills instantly without capped resists. This is the #1 priority, above damage.
  • Farm Atlas of Worlds during mid-game for the best return on time
  • Check the walkthrough to know when each resource becomes available
  • Match your farming route to your build — some classes farm faster in certain areas
