Path of Exile Tier List — Current Rankings

Path of Exile tier list ranking every build and equipment option. Updated rankings with detailed reasoning.

This Path of Exile tier list ranks every major option by overall effectiveness. Rankings factor in damage output, survivability, versatility, gear requirements, and how well each option scales.

Tier definitions: S = best in class, always a strong pick. A = strong and competitive, minor weaknesses. B = solid but clearly outperformed in most situations. C = viable only for players who enjoy the playstyle.

Detailed Builds Analysis

Marauder (A-Tier)

Strength-based class with Juggernaut (tanky), Chieftain (fire/totem), and Berserker (damage) ascendancies. Juggernaut's Unstoppable makes you immune to stun and slow. Best for melee builds that need to face-tank content.

Best with: High-DPS two-handed weapon, life-based armor, Determination aura Stat focus: Life > Armor > Melee Damage > Attack Speed

Witch (S-Tier)

Intelligence-based class with Necromancer (minions), Elementalist (elemental), and Occultist (chaos/curse). Necromancer is consistently one of the strongest league starters with Summon Raging Spirits or Skeleton Mages doing all the work.

Best with: +1/+2 minion gem level wand, Bones of Ullr, life+ES gear Stat focus: Minion Damage > Life > Minion Life > Resistances

Ranger (A-Tier)

Dexterity-based class with Deadeye (projectiles), Raider (speed), and Pathfinder (flasks). Pathfinder's permanent flask uptime enables unique builds. Tornado Shot Deadeye is the endgame mapping champion for speed-clearing.

Best with: High-DPS bow, Rigwald's Quills, evasion gear, life/ES Stat focus: Projectile Damage > Crit > Life > Evasion

Shadow (S-Tier)

Dexterity/Intelligence hybrid with Assassin (crit), Trickster (defense), and Saboteur (traps/mines). Saboteur traps are consistently among the best league starters. Seismic Trap can clear all content on a budget.

Best with: Trap support gems, life+ES hybrid gear, crit weapons Stat focus: Trap Damage > Crit > Life > Energy Shield

Templar (S-Tier)

Strength/Intelligence hybrid with Inquisitor (elemental), Hierophant (mana/totem), and Guardian (support/auras). Righteous Fire Inquisitor is the ultimate lazy build — walk through enemies while they burn. Hierophant totems are safe and consistent.

Best with: Rise of the Phoenix shield (RF), +1 gem level gear, life regen Stat focus: Life Regeneration > Fire Resistance > Life > Burning Damage (RF)

Equipment Analysis

Headhunter Belt: The most iconic chase unique — stealing rare monster modifiers on kill, stacking dozens of buffs that make you a screen-clearing god. Worth 50+ Divines. Transform from normal character to ridiculous power level in dense maps. The aspirational endgame item.

Mageblood: The other chase unique — makes 4 of your utility flasks permanent. Permanent 3,000+ armor, evasion, elemental resistance, and movement speed from flasks. Worth 100+ Divines. The most universally powerful item.

Ashes of the Stars: An amulet granting +1 to gem level and 10-20% quality to all skill gems. Quality bonuses on gems provide significant DPS/utility increases. Dropped by The Eater of Worlds. Best-in-slot for builds scaling gem levels.

Nimis: A ring that makes projectiles return to you after reaching maximum distance. This effectively doubles (or more) the hit count of projectile skills. Build-defining for Tornado Shot, Lightning Arrow, and other projectile builds.

Mirror of Kalandra: The rarest currency item — duplicates any non-unique item. Worth 200+ Divines. Most players never find one. Mirrored items (copies of perfect crafted gear) represent the absolute ceiling of gear optimization.

Meta Analysis

The current meta in Path of Exile centers on passive tree with 1300+ nodes and 6-link gem system. Builds that leverage both systems outperform those that focus on only one.

What's strong right now:

  • Marauder with Headhunter Belt is the benchmark. Everything else is measured against it.
  • atlas passive tree builds are gaining ground as players find new synergies.
  • Ranger remains essential for learning hard content.

What's underrated:

  • Witch is consistently overlooked despite being the most flexible option.
  • Ashes of the Stars offers excellent performance for its investment level.

What's overhyped:

  • Pure Templar builds. High ceiling but the consistency isn't there for most players.
