Planet Coaster 2 is Frontier Developments' theme park builder, released on 6 November 2024, eight years after the original. The headline addition is water: pools, flumes, lifeguards and a filtration system now sit alongside the coaster track editor. It ships with three modes, Career, Sandbox and Franchise, plus five themes, the original Placo theme along with Viking, Mythology, Aquatic and Resort. Career runs from a prologue called First Drop through chapters with names such as Rolling With It and Twisting Tracks, and rides no longer just work when you place them: generators, distributors and power cables have to reach them first.

Boss fights are where Planet Coaster 2 tests everything you've learned. This guide covers strategies for bosses across all areas, organized by progression order. For general combat techniques, see our combat guide.

Keys to the Coaster Bosses

Area difficulty: Easy Recommended level: Prologue, First Drop Recommended build: Mythology theme park with Flume builder

Strategy

The first bosses teach core combat mechanics. Focus on learning patterns rather than dealing damage. Pools are drawn as shapes and then filled, with ladders, entry steps and depth all placed by hand. This is your primary tool here.

Key tips:

  • Don't rush. Learn the attack patterns first.
  • Use Pool and flume building to create safe windows.
  • Flume builder is enough to handle everything here.

In the Swim of Things Bosses

Area difficulty: Moderate Recommended level: Prologue, First Drop Recommended build: Mythology theme park with Flume builder

Strategy

Early game bosses test your understanding of Power and water utilities. Players who skipped learning this mechanic will hit a wall here.

Key tips:

  • Power and water utilities is critical for these fights.
  • Farm Flume builder upgrades if you're struggling.
  • Consider switching to Mythology theme park if your current setup isn't working.

A Shore Thing Bosses

Area difficulty: Hard Recommended level: Chapter 1, Rolling With It Recommended build: Viking theme park with Coaster track editor

Strategy

Mid-game bosses are the major skill check. They combine multiple mechanics and punish players who rely on a single strategy.

Key tips:

  • You need both Pool and flume building and Ride prestige and guest needs mastery.
  • Coaster track editor makes a significant difference. Get it before attempting these.
  • See our combat guide for advanced techniques.

Summit Awesome Bosses

Area difficulty: Very Hard Recommended level: Chapter 1, Rolling With It Recommended build: Viking theme park with Coaster track editor

Strategy

Late-game bosses are serious challenges. Build optimization matters as much as mechanical skill.

Key tips:

  • Make sure your build is fully optimized.
  • Coaster track editor at max upgrade is recommended.
  • Study each boss's attack patterns. Most have 2-3 phases.

Double Trouble Bosses

Area difficulty: Extreme Recommended level: Chapter 3, Twisting Tracks Recommended build: Viking theme park with Coaster track editor

Strategy

Endgame bosses are the ultimate test. They require mastery of all combat systems and an optimized build.

Key tips:

  • Top-tier build with best-in-slot gear is mandatory.
  • Master every mechanic. See our combat guide.
  • These fights reward patience and pattern recognition above all else.

General Boss Tips

  1. Learn before you fight: Spend your first attempt observing attack patterns. Don't try to win on attempt one.
  2. Match your build: Some bosses favor certain builds over others. Don't be afraid to switch.
  3. Upgrade your equipment: A max-upgraded Coaster track editor trivializes fights that seem impossible with weaker gear.
  4. Use Pool and flume building: The core combat mechanic is your best defensive tool in every boss fight.
  5. Check the walkthrough: Our walkthrough tells you when you're ready for each boss.
