Transformice is Atelier 801's free multiplayer platformer where a room full of mice race to grab a piece of cheese and carry it back to a hole, while one player is chosen as the Shaman and builds the route with planks, boxes, anvils and balloons. The Shaman scores by saving other mice, and after 1,000 saves hard mode unlocks, then divine mode at 5,000 saves with at least 2,000 of them in hard mode. Five skill trees, Spiritual Guide, Wind Master, Mechanician, Wildling and Physicist, hold 15 skills each across six branches, so what a Shaman can summon changes considerably between two players at the same level.

Transformice features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.

Vanilla: Starting Area

The standard mode, and the one everything else is a variation on. A Shaman helps the room reach the cheese and the hole, points go to whoever gets home first, and the top scorer is likely to be the next Shaman.

What to Do Here

Bootcamp: Early Game

No Shaman and no help, just the hardest platforming maps in the game. Completions only count in rooms with four or more players, which is why empty bootcamp rooms are worth leaving.

Key RewardsBootcamp completions, movement skill that transfers to every other mode
Recommended BuildWind Master
Key EquipmentBig Box

What to Do Here

  • Focus on mastering Shaman summoning. It's critical from this point on.
  • Farm for Big Box if you don't have it yet.
  • Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
  • Prepare for the difficulty spike in Racing.

Racing: Mid Game

A pure speed mode where mice sprint for the cheese and the hole with no Shaman assistance. Competitive rankings require 11 or more mice in the room, so busy racing rooms are the ones worth joining.

Survivor: Late Game

The mode where the Shaman is the enemy. One player is given cannons and the Meep ability and tries to kill every mouse on the map, and the last mouse alive takes the round.

AttributeDetail
DifficultyAny level, adversarial
Key RewardsSurvivor rounds survived, cannon dodging practice
Recommended BuildSpiritual Guide
Key EquipmentLittle Plank

What to Do Here

  • Full build optimization is expected by this point.
  • Little Plank should be your primary, fully upgraded.
  • Skill trees mastery starts mattering here.
  • Farm resources for the push into Defilante.

Defilante: Endgame

A cooperative auto-scrolling mode where the whole room works through a scrolling map together. It rewards consistency over speed, since falling behind the scroll removes you rather than costing seconds.

AttributeDetail
DifficultyAny level, cooperative
Key RewardsDefilante points, group coordination
Recommended BuildSpiritual Guide
Key EquipmentLittle Plank

What to Do Here

  • This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
  • See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
  • The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
  • Experiment with Physicist for variety once you've mastered the meta.

Exploration Tips

  1. Clear areas in order: Vanilla → Bootcamp → Racing → Survivor → Defilante. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
  2. Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
  3. Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
  4. Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
  5. Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
