This Vampire Survivors tier list ranks every major option by overall effectiveness. Rankings factor in damage output, survivability, versatility, gear requirements, and how well each option scales.
Tier definitions: S = best in class, always a strong pick. A = strong and competitive, minor weaknesses. B = solid but clearly outperformed in most situations. C = viable only for players who enjoy the playstyle.
Builds Rankings
| Tier | Build | Rating | Playstyle |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | Antonio | 9.5/10 | Grab the Whip evolution first, then stack area-denial weapons. Antonio's scaling damage makes the late-game waves trivial. |
| A | Gennaro | 8.5/10 | Stack weapons that benefit from extra projectiles. The +1 projectile passive doubles the effectiveness of any weapon with few base projectiles. |
| A | Poe | 8.5/10 | Maximize pickup range to collect every gem on screen without moving toward them. The passive income from gems keeps you leveling ahead of enemy scaling. |
| A | Lama | 8.5/10 | Run circles around enemy hordes, letting your auto-firing weapons clear paths. The speed passive makes Lama one of the safest characters. |
| S | Queen Sigma | 9.5/10 | Survive to level 2 and you're probably winning. The Victory Sword handles most content solo while additional weapons stack overkill damage. |
Detailed Builds Analysis
Antonio (S-Tier)
Antonio starts with the Whip and gains +10% damage every 10 levels, eventually dealing absurd damage. His scaling makes any weapon viable. Pair Whip with Hollow Heart for Bloody Tear evolution, then stack AoE weapons. Antonio is the best beginner character and remains top-tier.
Best with: Whip → Bloody Tear, King Bible → Unholy Vespers, Santa Water → La Borra Stat focus: AoE weapons, damage multipliers, pickup range
Gennaro (A-Tier)
Gennaro starts with Knives and has +1 projectile as his passive. Extra projectiles benefit ALL weapons, making multi-hit weapons like Cross and Knife even stronger. The Knife → Thousand Edge evolution fires a wall of daggers that shreds everything.
Best with: Knife → Thousand Edge, Cross → Heaven Sword, extra projectile items Stat focus: Projectile count, fire rate, damage
Poe (A-Tier)
Poe starts with Garlic and has +25% pickup range. The expanded pickup range means experience gems and items are collected from further away, resulting in faster leveling. Garlic → Soul Eater is an excellent AoE weapon that heals on hit.
Best with: Garlic → Soul Eater, area-effect weapons, pickup range items Stat focus: Pickup range (passive stacking), area, duration
Lama (A-Tier)
Lama starts with the Knife and has +10% movement speed and +10% might. The speed makes kiting easy and the might boosts all damage. Good for aggressive play where you move through enemies rather than standing ground.
Best with: Knife → Thousand Edge, speed items, damage multipliers Stat focus: Movement speed, might (damage), projectile speed
Queen Sigma (S-Tier)
Queen Sigma is an unlockable endgame character that starts with the Victory Sword — a weapon that fires in 8 directions and scales massively. She has +1 to all stats. Queen Sigma is the strongest character but requires significant game completion to unlock.
Best with: Victory Sword (starting), any evolution combo Stat focus: Whatever you want — she's overpowered by design
Equipment Rankings
| Equipment | Best With | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Whip → Bloody Tear | Antonio | The Whip evolves into Bloody Tear (with Hollow Heart passive). |
| Knife → Thousand Edge | Gennaro | The Knife evolves into Thousand Edge (with Bracer passive). |
| King Bible → Unholy Vespers | All characters | King Bible evolves into Unholy Vespers (with Spellbinder passive). |
| Garlic → Soul Eater | Poe | Garlic evolves into Soul Eater (with Pummarola passive). |
| Santa Water → La Borra | All characters | Santa Water evolves into La Borra (with Attractorb passive). |
Equipment Analysis
Whip → Bloody Tear: The Whip evolves into Bloody Tear (with Hollow Heart passive). Bloody Tear deals damage in a wide horizontal arc and heals you for a percentage of damage dealt. It's the best sustain weapon in the game and makes Antonio nearly unkillable at high levels.
Knife → Thousand Edge: The Knife evolves into Thousand Edge (with Bracer passive). Thousand Edge fires a massive volley of knives in the direction you're facing. With Gennaro's +1 projectile, it creates a wall of death that shreds bosses and crowds alike.
King Bible → Unholy Vespers: King Bible evolves into Unholy Vespers (with Spellbinder passive). Rotating sacred books circle you permanently, damaging everything that gets close. The evolution adds knockback and increased damage. Essential defensive weapon for when enemies overwhelm you.
Garlic → Soul Eater: Garlic evolves into Soul Eater (with Pummarola passive). Creates a damage aura that also heals you on hit. The healing scales with enemy density — more enemies means more healing. Combined with Bloody Tear, you're nearly invincible.
Santa Water → La Borra: Santa Water evolves into La Borra (with Attractorb passive). Creates persistent damaging pools on the ground that last for the duration. La Borra's ground denial covers massive areas and melts anything standing in it.
Meta Analysis
The current meta in Vampire Survivors centers on auto-attacking and weapon evolution. Builds that leverage both systems outperform those that focus on only one.
What's strong right now:
- Antonio with Whip → Bloody Tear is the benchmark. Everything else is measured against it.
- character passives builds are gaining ground as players find new synergies.
- Poe remains essential for learning hard content.
What's underrated:
- Gennaro is consistently overlooked despite being the most flexible option.
- King Bible → Unholy Vespers offers excellent performance for its investment level.
What's overhyped:
- Pure Queen Sigma builds. High ceiling but the consistency isn't there for most players.
