World's Edge and Forgotten Empires rebuilt the 2002 Ensemble Studios strategy game and shipped it on 4 September 2024, keeping the Greek, Egyptian, Norse and Atlantean pantheons and rewriting the parts that had aged badly. The largest change is that god powers are no longer single use: the first cast is free and every reuse costs favor on a ramping scale, so Bolt at 75 favor becomes a tool rather than a one time trick. Freyr joined the Norse as a fourth major god, and the Immortal Pillars expansion on 4 March 2025 added the Chinese pantheon with Fuxi, Nuwa and Shennong plus a nine level campaign called Pillars of the Gods. Each pantheon generates favor by a completely different method, which is what makes the matchups feel unlike any other real time strategy game.

Resource management and crafting determine how quickly your power scales. This guide covers what to prioritize, where to farm, and how to avoid wasting resources on the wrong upgrades.

Resource Farming by Area

Anatolia

Key resources: Defensible chokepoints, limited fishing, contested mountain passes Farming efficiency: Low value per run, but safe and consistent

Focus on gathering materials for Medusa upgrades here. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Midgard

Key resources: Heavy fishing income, weak land hunting, long shared coastline Farming efficiency: Good early-game farming spot

Focus on gathering materials for Medusa upgrades here. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Marsh

Key resources: Terrain based chokepoints, strong defensive positions, awkward siege routes Farming efficiency: Best mid-game farming, worth revisiting

Focus on gathering materials for Medusa upgrades here. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Mediterranean

Key resources: Central lake control, coastal expansion sites, heavy naval contest Farming efficiency: High-value materials for late-game upgrades

This is where you farm materials for Minotaur max upgrades. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Ghost Lake

Key resources: Crossable frozen centre, unusual attack angles, cold map resource layout Farming efficiency: Best resources in the game, requires strong build

This is where you farm materials for Minotaur max upgrades. See our maps guide for detailed area layouts.

Upgrade Path

Early Game (Anatolia to Midgard)

  1. Upgrade your starting equipment to functional level
  2. Craft basic defensive gear
  3. Save specialty materials, since you'll need them later
  4. Focus on Medusa once accessible

Mid Game (Marsh)

  1. Push Medusa to mid-level upgrades
  2. Start collecting materials for Minotaur
  3. Craft situational consumables for boss fights
  4. Upgrade build-specific gear pieces

Late Game (Mediterranean to Ghost Lake)

  1. Max out Minotaur. This is your top priority
  2. Complete your build's core gear set
  3. Craft endgame consumables
  4. Optional: upgrade secondary equipment for variety

Crafting Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Spreading upgrades across multiple equipment: Focus one weapon to max before diversifying.
  2. Hoarding materials: Use them. The game provides enough if you farm efficiently.
  3. Upgrading the wrong gear: Check our builds guide before investing.
  4. Ignoring Marsh farming: This area has the best resource-to-time ratio in mid-game.
  5. Crafting consumables too early: Save specialty materials for late-game recipes.

Resource Efficiency Tips

  • Cast every god power once as early as it is useful. The first use of any power is free, and holding it back the way you did in the 2002 original just wastes it.
  • Farm Marsh during mid-game for the best return on time
  • Check the walkthrough to know when each resource becomes available
  • Match your farming route to your build. Some classes farm faster in certain areas
