Ubisoft Mainz released Anno 1800 on 16 April 2019 and built it around five Old World population tiers that each demand more goods than the one below. Sunken Treasures followed on 30 July 2019 with Cape Trelawney and Crown Falls, a continental island roughly three times the size of anything in the base game and 103 Influence to settle. Later sessions add the New World, the Arctic and Enbesa, each with its own residents, goods and shipping problem.
Boss fights are where Anno 1800 tests everything you've learned. This guide covers strategies for bosses across all areas, organized by progression order. For general combat techniques, see our combat guide.
Boss Difficulty Overview
| Area | Difficulty | Recommended Build | Key Equipment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Old World | Easy | Workers | Clipper |
| Cape Trelawney | Moderate | Workers | Clipper |
| The New World | Hard | Farmers | Schooner |
| The Arctic | Very Hard | Farmers | Schooner |
| Enbesa | Extreme | Farmers | Schooner |
Old World Bosses
Area difficulty: Easy Recommended level: Farmers through Investors Recommended build: Workers with Clipper
Strategy
The first bosses teach core combat mechanics. Focus on learning patterns rather than dealing damage. Farmers, Workers, Artisans, Engineers and Investors upgrade in sequence, and each tier keeps every need of the tier below. This is your primary tool here.
Key tips:
- Don't rush. Learn the attack patterns first.
- Use Five Old World population tiers to create safe windows.
- Clipper is enough to handle everything here.
Cape Trelawney Bosses
Area difficulty: Moderate Recommended level: Unlocked by an expedition once you reach 700 Artisans Recommended build: Workers with Clipper
Strategy
Early game bosses test your understanding of Island-wide shared workforce. Players who skipped learning this mechanic will hit a wall here.
Key tips:
- Island-wide shared workforce is critical for these fights.
- Farm Clipper upgrades if you're struggling.
- Consider switching to Workers if your current setup isn't working.
The New World Bosses
Area difficulty: Hard Recommended level: Unlocked by the campaign expedition to South America Recommended build: Farmers with Schooner
Strategy
Mid-game bosses are the major skill check. They combine multiple mechanics and punish players who rely on a single strategy.
Key tips:
- You need both Five Old World population tiers and Influence spent on islands and ships mastery.
- Schooner makes a significant difference. Get it before attempting these.
- See our combat guide for advanced techniques.
The Arctic Bosses
Area difficulty: Very Hard Recommended level: Requires The Passage and a northern expedition Recommended build: Farmers with Schooner
Strategy
Late-game bosses are serious challenges. Build optimization matters as much as mechanical skill.
Key tips:
- Make sure your build is fully optimized.
- Schooner at max upgrade is recommended.
- Study each boss's attack patterns. Most have 2-3 phases.
Enbesa Bosses
Area difficulty: Extreme Recommended level: Requires Land of Lions and an expedition to Enbesa Recommended build: Farmers with Schooner
Strategy
Endgame bosses are the ultimate test. They require mastery of all combat systems and an optimized build.
Key tips:
- Top-tier build with best-in-slot gear is mandatory.
- Master every mechanic. See our combat guide.
- These fights reward patience and pattern recognition above all else.
General Boss Tips
- Learn before you fight: Spend your first attempt observing attack patterns. Don't try to win on attempt one.
- Match your build: Some bosses favor certain builds over others. Don't be afraid to switch.
- Upgrade your equipment: A max-upgraded Schooner trivializes fights that seem impossible with weaker gear.
- Use Five Old World population tiers: The core combat mechanic is your best defensive tool in every boss fight.
- Check the walkthrough: Our walkthrough tells you when you're ready for each boss.
