Ubisoft Mainz released Anno 1800 on 16 April 2019 and built it around five Old World population tiers that each demand more goods than the one below. Sunken Treasures followed on 30 July 2019 with Cape Trelawney and Crown Falls, a continental island roughly three times the size of anything in the base game and 103 Influence to settle. Later sessions add the New World, the Arctic and Enbesa, each with its own residents, goods and shipping problem.
Anno 1800 features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.
Area Progression Order
| Order | Location | Difficulty | Key Rewards | Recommended Build |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Old World | Farmers through Investors | Schnapps, Beer, Sausages, Steel Beams, Weapons, Sewing Machines | Workers |
| 2 | Cape Trelawney | Unlocked by an expedition once you reach 700 Artisans | Crown Falls building space, Old Nate's goods, seabed salvage | Workers |
| 3 | The New World | Unlocked by the campaign expedition to South America | Cotton, Sugar Cane, Rum, Coffee, Cocoa, Tobacco | Farmers |
| 4 | The Arctic | Requires The Passage and a northern expedition | Gas for Airships, furs, whale oil | Farmers |
| 5 | Enbesa | Requires Land of Lions and an expedition to Enbesa | Research items, Scholar bonuses, unique Enbesan goods | Farmers |
Old World: Starting Area
The European home session where all five population tiers live and where most of your industry ends up. Fertility varies island to island, so no single island grows every crop you need.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Farmers through Investors |
| Key Rewards | Schnapps, Beer, Sausages, Steel Beams, Weapons, Sewing Machines |
| Recommended Build | Workers |
| Key Equipment | Clipper |
What to Do Here
- Learn the basics of Five Old World population tiers. This is where you practice without heavy punishment.
- Collect starting resources and your first equipment upgrade.
- Clear all main content before moving to Cape Trelawney.
- If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.
Cape Trelawney: Early Game
A second European session dominated by Crown Falls, the continental island in the north. Old Nate trades here and hands over the salvager, a diving bell ship that recovers wrecks from the seabed.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Unlocked by an expedition once you reach 700 Artisans |
| Key Rewards | Crown Falls building space, Old Nate's goods, seabed salvage |
| Recommended Build | Workers |
| Key Equipment | Clipper |
What to Do Here
- Focus on mastering Island-wide shared workforce. It's critical from this point on.
- Farm for Clipper if you don't have it yet.
- Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
- Prepare for the difficulty spike in The New World.
The New World: Mid Game
South American islands settled by Jornaleros and Obreros. Everything an Artisan or Investor wants to drink or smoke starts here, and the shipping distance home is the real cost.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Unlocked by the campaign expedition to South America |
| Key Rewards | Cotton, Sugar Cane, Rum, Coffee, Cocoa, Tobacco |
| Recommended Build | Farmers |
| Key Equipment | Clipper |
What to Do Here
- This is the main skill check. Bring an optimized build.
- Schooner becomes accessible here. Prioritize getting it.
- Master Influence spent on islands and ships for the boss encounters.
- Check our boss guide if you get stuck.
The Arctic: Late Game
Added by The Passage. Explorers and Technicians survive only inside heater coverage, and buildings outside it stop working, which makes layout a heat problem before it is a logistics problem.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Requires The Passage and a northern expedition |
| Key Rewards | Gas for Airships, furs, whale oil |
| Recommended Build | Farmers |
| Key Equipment | Schooner |
What to Do Here
- Full build optimization is expected by this point.
- Schooner should be your primary, fully upgraded.
- Expeditions to other sessions mastery starts mattering here.
- Farm resources for the push into Enbesa.
Enbesa: Endgame
Added by Land of Lions. Shepherds and Elders live along irrigation canals, and the Research Institute turns Scholar output into permanent items for every other session.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Requires Land of Lions and an expedition to Enbesa |
| Key Rewards | Research items, Scholar bonuses, unique Enbesan goods |
| Recommended Build | Farmers |
| Key Equipment | Schooner |
What to Do Here
- This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
- See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
- The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
- Experiment with Investors for variety once you've mastered the meta.
Exploration Tips
- Clear areas in order: Old World → Cape Trelawney → The New World → The Arctic → Enbesa. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
- Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
- Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
- Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
- Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
