Ubisoft Montreal shipped Assassin's Creed Origins on 27 October 2017 and rebuilt the series around hitboxes, weapon classes and a level cap of 40. You play Bayek of Siwa, the last Medjay, hunting the masked Order of the Ancients across Ptolemaic Egypt in 49 BCE while Senu the eagle scouts targets from above. Four separate bow classes, Hunter, Predator, Light and Warrior, each behave like a different weapon; Odyssey collapsed all of that into one bow a year later, which makes Origins the only entry where the bow you pick changes the fight.
Assassin's Creed Origins features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.
Area Progression Order
| Order | Location | Difficulty | Key Rewards | Recommended Build |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Siwa | Levels 1 to 5 | The Hidden Blade, the first Ability Points, the Temple of Amun questline, the Mountain of the Dead tomb | Warrior |
| 2 | Alexandria | Levels 9 to 14 | Great Library papyrus puzzles, the Lighthouse viewpoint, multiple Order of the Ancients targets | Warrior |
| 3 | Giza | Levels 19 to 24 | The Great Pyramid tomb, the Sphinx interior opened by the twelve Stone Circles, Ancient Mechanism gear | Hunter |
| 4 | Memphis | Levels 23 to 28 | Temple of Ptah story quests, the Apis bull sequence, high level legendary chests | Hunter |
| 5 | Green Mountains | Levels 36 to 40 | Cyrene arena bouts, level 40 legendary weapons, the final Order of the Ancients targets | Hunter |
Siwa: Starting Area
The prologue oasis and Bayek's home, where the hunt for the Order of the Ancients begins at the Temple of Amun. It is deliberately small and low pressure, and it teaches Senu, tombs and the hidden blade before the map opens.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Levels 1 to 5 |
| Key Rewards | The Hidden Blade, the first Ability Points, the Temple of Amun questline, the Mountain of the Dead tomb |
| Recommended Build | Warrior |
| Key Equipment | Predator Bow |
What to Do Here
- Learn the basics of Four bow classes. This is where you practice without heavy punishment.
- Collect starting resources and your first equipment upgrade.
- Clear all main content before moving to Alexandria.
- If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.
Alexandria: Early Game
The Greek capital, dense with rooftops, libraries and Ptolemaic soldiers, and the first place the Order feels organised. It is also where the papyrus puzzle treasure hunts start paying out properly.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Levels 9 to 14 |
| Key Rewards | Great Library papyrus puzzles, the Lighthouse viewpoint, multiple Order of the Ancients targets |
| Recommended Build | Warrior |
| Key Equipment | Predator Bow |
What to Do Here
- Focus on mastering Senu eagle scouting. It's critical from this point on.
- Farm for Predator Bow if you don't have it yet.
- Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
- Prepare for the difficulty spike in Giza.
Giza: Mid Game
The pyramid plateau, with the Great Pyramid of Khufu open as a full tomb and the Sphinx sitting on top of one of the game's better secrets. Sand dunes make Senu scouting essential because sightlines on foot are terrible.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Levels 19 to 24 |
| Key Rewards | The Great Pyramid tomb, the Sphinx interior opened by the twelve Stone Circles, Ancient Mechanism gear |
| Recommended Build | Hunter |
| Key Equipment | Predator Bow |
What to Do Here
- This is the main skill check. Bring an optimized build.
- Hunter Bow becomes accessible here. Prioritize getting it.
- Master Adrenaline and Overpower for the boss encounters.
- Check our boss guide if you get stuck.
Memphis: Late Game
The old Egyptian capital, built around the Temple of Ptah and a staged curse that turns out to be a political weapon. Enemy density is high and the city fights are the first that punish sloppy stealth.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Levels 23 to 28 |
| Key Rewards | Temple of Ptah story quests, the Apis bull sequence, high level legendary chests |
| Recommended Build | Hunter |
| Key Equipment | Hunter Bow |
What to Do Here
- Full build optimization is expected by this point.
- Hunter Bow should be your primary, fully upgraded.
- Phylakes bounty hunters mastery starts mattering here.
- Farm resources for the push into Green Mountains.
Green Mountains: Endgame
The Cyrenaican highlands in the far west, green and Greek rather than Egyptian, and the last region the main story reaches. Everything here is at or near the level 40 cap, including the arena in Cyrene.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Levels 36 to 40 |
| Key Rewards | Cyrene arena bouts, level 40 legendary weapons, the final Order of the Ancients targets |
| Recommended Build | Hunter |
| Key Equipment | Hunter Bow |
What to Do Here
- This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
- See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
- The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
- Experiment with Bow Sniper for variety once you've mastered the meta.
Exploration Tips
- Clear areas in order: Siwa → Alexandria → Giza → Memphis → Green Mountains. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
- Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
- Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
- Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
- Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
