Rocksteady's last Arkham game drops you into an evacuated Gotham on the night Scarecrow threatens the city with fear toxin, with the Batmobile finally drivable and the Arkham Knight's militia holding the streets. The map is three islands, Bleake, Miagani and Founders', each split into named districts, and the Riddler has hidden 243 trophies across them. The 2015 PC port was so broken that Warner Bros pulled it from sale for four months, which is still the first thing anyone mentions about it. Underneath that, the combat and predator systems are the sharpest in the series, and the Batmobile is the one thing players still argue about.

Batman: Arkham Knight features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.

Bleake Island: Starting Area

The northern island and the starting ground, holding Chinatown as its largest district, the industrial storage of The Cauldron to the east and the underdeveloped Panessa Studios area ringed by an old water canal. The GCPD Lockup sits here, which is where every villain you capture ends up.

Miagani Island: Early Game

The central island, split into the retail and entertainment sprawl of Grand Avenue plus the smaller Bristol and Kingston districts. It has the tallest buildings on the map, which makes it the best island for pure grapnel and glide traversal without touching the road network.

Founders' Island: Mid Game

The southwestern island, built from Otisburg, Drescher and Port Adams. It is the most industrial ground on the map and the heaviest militia presence, so it is where the Batmobile stops being optional and the Cobra tank sequences start biting.

Ace Chemicals: Late Game

The opening infiltration, run as a multi part sequence through the plant while Scarecrow prepares to disperse fear toxin across Gotham. It is the game's tutorial for Batmobile remote driving and for how the Fear Multi-Takedown chains, taught under time pressure rather than in a safe room.

What to Do Here

  • Full build optimization is expected by this point.
  • Batarang should be your primary, fully upgraded.
  • Most Wanted missions and the Knightfall Protocol mastery starts mattering here.
  • Farm resources for the push into Panessa Studios.

Panessa Studios: Endgame

A converted film studio district on Bleake Island that becomes the holding site for the four people infected with Joker's blood: Henry Adams, Christina Bell, Johnny Charisma and Albert King. The sequences here are close quarters and story heavy rather than open world combat.

What to Do Here

  • This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
  • See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
  • The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
  • Experiment with Batgirl for variety once you've mastered the meta.

Exploration Tips

  1. Clear areas in order: Bleake Island → Miagani Island → Founders' Island → Ace Chemicals → Panessa Studios. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
  2. Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
  3. Match your weapons: Some areas favor different weapons types.
  4. Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
  5. Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
