DICE launched Battlefield 2042 on 19 November 2021 with no class system at all, and Update 3.2 in January 2023 put Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon back in charge of every Specialist. Season 7, Turning Point, went live on 19 March 2024 with the Haven map and closed out the seasonal run. What remains is a 128 player sandbox with 14 Specialists and more than 17 maps, still maintained through events and Vault Drops rather than numbered seasons.
Battlefield 2042 features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.
Area Progression Order
| Order | Location | Difficulty | Key Rewards | Recommended Role |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Orbital | 128 player Conquest and Breakthrough | Rocket pad control, strong armour lanes, long sightlines for Recon | Engineer |
| 2 | Kaleidoscope | 128 player Conquest | Tower rooftop control, dense infantry combat, grapple routes for Mackay | Engineer |
| 3 | Manifest | Conquest and Breakthrough | Container cover, close quarters flag fights, limited air exposure | Assault |
| 4 | Exposure | Season 1 map, all modes | High ground advantage, helicopter approach routes, tunnel flanks | Assault |
| 5 | Haven | Season 7 map, all modes | Urban infantry combat, short rotations, strong Support and Assault ground | Assault |
Orbital: Starting Area
A rocket launch site in French Guiana with a live countdown that can end in a launch or an explosion depending on whether the objective is contested. Open ground between hard points favours vehicles heavily.

| Key Rewards | Rocket pad control, strong armour lanes, long sightlines for Recon |
| Recommended Role | Engineer |
| Key Weapons | PP-29 |
What to Do Here
- Learn the basics of Four classes across 14 Specialists. This is where you practice without heavy punishment.
- Collect starting resources and your first weapons upgrade.
- Clear all main content before moving to Kaleidoscope.
- If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.
Kaleidoscope: Early Game
A South Korean city map built around a data centre tower, reworked after launch to add cover and shorten the empty stretches between objectives. Vertical fighting dominates the centre.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | 128 player Conquest |
| Key Rewards | Tower rooftop control, dense infantry combat, grapple routes for Mackay |
| Recommended Role | Engineer |
| Key Weapons | PP-29 |
What to Do Here
- Focus on mastering 128 player Conquest. It's critical from this point on.
- Farm for PP-29 if you don't have it yet.
- Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
- Prepare for the difficulty spike in Manifest.
Manifest: Mid Game
A Singapore container port where stacked freight creates a maze at ground level and clear firing lines above it. One of the better Breakthrough maps because the lanes are readable.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Conquest and Breakthrough |
| Key Rewards | Container cover, close quarters flag fights, limited air exposure |
| Recommended Role | Assault |
| Key Weapons | PP-29 |
What to Do Here
- This is the main skill check. Bring an optimized build.
- M5A3 becomes accessible here. Prioritize getting it.
- Master Call In vehicle and supply drops for the boss encounters.
- Check our boss guide if you get stuck.
Exposure: Late Game
The first post-launch map, added in Season 1 Zero Hour, set across a mountain range with a research facility carved into the slopes. Elevation changes decide almost every engagement.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Season 1 map, all modes |
| Key Rewards | High ground advantage, helicopter approach routes, tunnel flanks |
| Recommended Role | Assault |
| Key Weapons | M5A3 |
What to Do Here
- Full build optimization is expected by this point.
- M5A3 should be your primary, fully upgraded.
- Battlefield Portal custom rules mastery starts mattering here.
- Farm resources for the push into Haven.
Haven: Endgame
Added in Season 7 Turning Point on 19 March 2024, set in El Alicanto in the Atacama desert. Tight streets and low buildings make it an infantry map first and a vehicle map second.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Season 7 map, all modes |
| Key Rewards | Urban infantry combat, short rotations, strong Support and Assault ground |
| Recommended Role | Assault |
| Key Weapons | M5A3 |
What to Do Here
- This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
- See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
- The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
- Experiment with Battlefield Portal legacy kits for variety once you've mastered the meta.
Exploration Tips
- Clear areas in order: Orbital → Kaleidoscope → Manifest → Exposure → Haven. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
- Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
- Match your weapons: Some areas favor different weapons types.
- Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
- Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
