BeamNG.drive is a driving sandbox built on a soft-body physics engine that models every beam and node of a vehicle. Cars crumple, axles bend, and engines fail in ways scripted games never capture. It is part crash simulator, part racing playground, and part endless tuning workshop.

A-Tier: Rally Driver

A loose-surface setup with raised suspension, soft dampers, and grippy tires for controlled slides on gravel.

Core Setup

SlotChoiceWhy
Stat PrioritySuspension travel, tire gripOptimal scaling
Key Mechanicsoft-body physicsEach vehicle is a mesh of nodes connected by beams that deform under real forces, so collisions, rollovers, and component failures all play out from physics rather than canned animations.

How to Play Rally Driver

Trail brake into corners, ride the slide

  • Highest overall performance

  • Clear stat priority (Suspension travel, tire grip) makes gearing straightforward

  • Works in all content types

  • Popular pick, resources may be contested

  • Needs specific gear to reach full potential

A-Tier: Drift Specialist

Rear-drive power, a locked differential, and reduced rear grip to hold long, smoky slides.

Core Setup

SlotChoiceWhy
Stat PriorityPower delivery, weight balanceOptimal scaling
Key Mechanicvehicle tuningThe tuning menu exposes deep parameters like gear ratios, camber, spring rates, and tire pressure.

How to Play Drift Specialist

Initiate with weight transfer, hold the angle

  • Most versatile option

  • Clear stat priority (Power delivery, weight balance) makes gearing straightforward

  • Works in all content types

  • Lower peak damage than S-tier

  • Needs specific gear to reach full potential

B-Tier: Demolition Derby

A reinforced heavy build aimed at surviving impacts and dishing out damage in an arena.

Core Setup

SlotChoiceWhy
Stat PriorityDurability, massOptimal scaling
Key Mechanicscenario and freeroam modesYou can drop into open freeroam to explore and experiment, or load scenarios and time trials with set objectives.

How to Play Demolition Derby

Aim for opponents, protect your radiator and wheels

  • Best survivability

  • Clear stat priority (Durability, mass) makes gearing straightforward

  • Works in all content types

  • Slower clear speeds

  • Needs specific gear to reach full potential

S-Tier: Time Trial Racer

A track-optimized tune with stiff suspension, aggressive aero, and slick tires for the fastest clean laps.

Core Setup

SlotChoiceWhy
Stat PriorityGrip, aero balance, gearingOptimal scaling
Key Mechaniccareer mode progressionCareer mode adds money, vehicle ownership, and a progression loop of jobs and challenges across the maps.

How to Play Time Trial Racer

Smooth inputs, hit apexes, minimize scrub

  • Strong in group/team content

  • Clear stat priority (Grip, aero balance, gearing) makes gearing straightforward

  • Excels in its niche

  • Weaker solo performance

  • Requires deep game knowledge

B-Tier: Off-Road Crawler

Low gearing, soft tires, and high clearance for technical climbs over rough terrain.

Core Setup

SlotChoiceWhy
Stat PriorityTorque, articulation, tractionOptimal scaling
Key Mechanicmod supportAn enormous modding scene adds vehicles, maps, and tools through the in-game repository.

How to Play Off-Road Crawler

Crawl deliberately, pick clean lines over obstacles

  • Unique, rewarding playstyle

  • Clear stat priority (Torque, articulation, traction) makes gearing straightforward

  • Excels in its niche

  • High skill floor, punishing when misplayed

  • Requires deep game knowledge

Build Progression Path

  1. Start with Drift Specialist: the most forgiving option for learning the game
  2. Transition to Rally Driver once you understand core mechanics and have access to Ibishu Pessima
  3. Keep a Demolition Derby setup for content that keeps killing you
  4. Try Off-Road Crawler for a fresh experience once you've mastered the basics

Follow our walkthrough for the optimal progression path through each area.

Gearing Tips

  • Invest in your primary equipment first, since it gives the biggest power spike.
  • Switch on the damage and node overlay early to understand how the soft-body physics models failures.
  • Tune tire pressure first, it changes grip and handling more noticeably than most other settings.
  • Don't spread upgrade resources across multiple builds until endgame
