You click a cookie, buy 20 building types from Cursor up to You that click it for you, then reset everything and do it again faster. Buildings and CpS
Twenty building types from Cursor through Portal and Prism up to You generate cookies per second, and each gets tiered upgrades plus Kitten upgrades that scale off milk. Buying the cheapest building that improves your payback time beats saving for the shiniest new tier.
Golden cookies
Golden cookies spawn on a timer and roll effects such as Frenzy at seven times CpS for 77 seconds, Lucky for a slice of your bank, or Click Frenzy at 777 times click power for 13 seconds. Overlapping two of them is where the enormous single run numbers come from.
Ascension and heavenly chips
Resetting converts total cookies baked into prestige levels, where reaching level n takes n cubed trillion cookies. Heavenly chips buy permanent upgrades on the ascension tree so every following run starts stronger.
Sugar lumps
Sugar lumps start growing once you have baked a billion cookies and ripen on a 20 hour cycle. They pay for building levels and minigames, and the bifurcated, golden, meaty and caramelized variants each behave differently at harvest.
Grandmapocalypse
Feeding the grandmas moves them through Awoken, Displeased and Angered, swapping some golden cookies for wrath cookies and spawning wrinklers on the big cookie. Wrinklers drain CpS while attached but pay it back with a bonus when popped, so most players farm them rather than clearing them.

Garden: Unlocked by levelling a Farm with a sugar lump. You plant seeds on a plot grid, cross breed them into 34 species, and harvest plants such as Bakeberry and Queenbeet for large CpS boosts.
Stock Market: Unlocked by levelling a Bank. Each building has a tradeable good with a resting value that drifts, and buying low then selling high converts idle cookies into extra cookies with no CpS cost.
Pantheon: Unlocked by levelling a Temple. You slot three of eleven spirits into diamond, ruby and jade slots, with swaps limited by a cooldown that grows the more you fiddle.
Grimoire: Unlocked by levelling a Wizard Tower. Spells cost magic that regenerates over time, and Force the Hand of Fate spawns a golden cookie on demand, which is the backbone of combo play.
Ascension tree: The screen you land on after resetting, where heavenly chips buy permanent upgrades laid out as a connected tree. Permanent Upgrade Slots let you carry a handful of normal upgrades into every future run.

Tips That Actually Matter
- Buy the building with the best payback time rather than the newest unlocked one. Divide the price by the CpS it adds, compare across all 20 buildings, and buy whichever number is smallest. Late buildings are usually terrible value for the first few purchases.
- Golden cookies only pay properly if your bank is full when Lucky lands, because Lucky grants 15 percent of your current bank capped at 15 minutes of CpS. Spending your entire bank right before a golden cookie spawns throws away most of the reward.
- Frenzy multiplies CpS by seven for 77 seconds, and Click Frenzy multiplies click power by 777 for 13 seconds. Catching both at once and clicking through the overlap produces more cookies than the previous hour of idling.
- Do not pop wrinklers as they appear. Each one drains a slice of CpS but returns it with a bonus when popped, and a full board of them popped during a Frenzy is one of the biggest single payouts available before ascension.
- Harvest sugar lumps only when they are ripe. Clicking an unripe lump risks getting nothing at all, and the 20 hour cycle means a wasted lump costs most of a day of minigame progress.
- Ascend earlier than feels comfortable. Prestige scales with the cube root of cookies baked, so the second half of any run adds very few levels compared to the first half. Short repeated runs outproduce one long grind.
- Set Permanent Upgrade Slots to the upgrades that are painful to rebuy, usually the early Kitten upgrades or a strong click upgrade. They apply from the very first second of a new run, which is where the multiplier matters most.
- In the Garden, keep a couple of tiles permanently planted with Bakeberry for the passive CpS boost while you cross breed on the rest. Switching the soil to Woodchips speeds up growth when you are actively hunting a new species.
- Godzamok in the Pantheon gives a click damage boost when you sell buildings, so the standard combo is to sell a few hundred Cursors during a Click Frenzy and buy them straight back afterwards. Cursors are cheap enough that the rebuy cost is negligible.
- The Grandmapocalypse is worth starting once you can handle wrath cookies, because wrath cookie effects include Elder Frenzy at 666 times CpS. Keep Elder Pledge available for the occasions where you want clean golden cookies for a specific combo.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Buying the newest building instead of the cheapest one.
- Popping wrinklers as soon as they attach.
- Clicking sugar lumps before they ripen.
- Staying in one run far past the point prestige flattens.
- Emptying the cookie bank right before a golden cookie spawns.
Frequently Asked Questions
When should I ascend for the first time in Cookie Clicker?
Once you can bank around a trillion cookies in total, which grants your first prestige levels. Waiting longer is not wrong, but heavenly chips are worth almost nothing until you buy Heavenly Chip Secret, so getting to that upgrade quickly matters more than a big first run.
Is active clicking worth it or should I just idle?
Idling carries the game between sessions, but the biggest gains come from being present for a Frenzy and Click Frenzy overlap. If you can spare a few attentive minutes per day, combo play beats pure idling by a wide margin.
Should I start the Grandmapocalypse?
Yes, once you have the Sacrificial Rolling Pins upgrade and are comfortable with wrath cookies. Wrinklers alone more than pay for the downside, and Elder Pledge or Elder Covenant lets you switch it back off if a run goes badly.
What do sugar lumps actually do?
They level individual buildings, which raises that building's output and unlocks the four minigames: Garden from the Farm, Stock Market from the Bank, Pantheon from the Temple and Grimoire from the Wizard Tower. Minigame unlocks are the best early use.
Does the Steam version differ from the browser one?
The Steam release adds Steam achievements, cloud saves and a C418 soundtrack, but the game logic is the same one Orteil has been updating since 2013. Saves can be exported as text and moved between the two.
