Dark Souls: Remastered Classes & Characters — Complete Guide

Every Dark Souls: Remastered build and class explained. Strengths, weaknesses, best gear, and which to pick for your playstyle.

Dark Souls: Remastered is the game that defined an entire genre. Its interconnected world — where shortcuts loop back on themselves in satisfying 'aha' moments — remains unmatched in level design. Every door, elevator, and hidden path connects areas in ways that reward exploration and memory. The difficulty is legendary but fair: every death teaches a lesson, every boss has exploitable patterns, and mastery feels genuinely earned. The Remastered version runs at 60fps with improved textures and restored online play for up to 6 players. If you've never played a Souls game, this is where it all started.

Choosing the right build shapes your entire experience. This guide breaks down every option — what they're good at, what they struggle with, and which one matches your playstyle. For optimized builds with full gear sets, see our builds guide.

Knight

The Knight starts with decent armor and stats for a melee build. Leveling Endurance (for stamina and equip load) and Vitality (HP) creates a tanky character. The Claymore (found on the bridge with the Hellkite Dragon) is an excellent early weapon that carries through the entire game with its versatile moveset.

Which Build Should You Pick?

For Beginners

Pyromancer is the clear winner. It's forgiving, teaches core mechanics, and remains competitive into endgame. Follow our beginner's guide for the best first-session experience.

For Maximum Performance

Knight is the top pick once you understand the game's mechanics. Pair it with Black Knight Halberd for the strongest overall setup.

For a Challenge

Deprived offers the highest skill ceiling. It's punishing when misplayed but incredibly rewarding when mastered. Only recommended after you've completed the game with another build.

For Group Play

Bandit shines in cooperative content with utility and team support capabilities.
