Deadzone: Rogue is a first person roguelite from Prophecy Games, set aboard the colony ship ISS-X after its machines turned hostile. It entered Early Access on 29 April 2025 and hit version 1.0 on 11 August 2025, and it currently sits around 86 percent positive from more than eight thousand Steam reviews. A run means fighting through sectors of a zone, thirty of them per story zone with a boss waiting at sectors 10, 20 and 30, alone or with up to two friends. You carry a primary, a secondary, a melee weapon and a grenade, and every one of them can take elemental affixes that turn a shotgun into a crowd control tool or a submachine gun into a freezing hose. There are no character classes; your build comes from the perks, augments and armour traits you pick up during the run, and from the permanent Tech Masteries you unlock between runs with Tech and Tech Components. Difficulty runs across five tiers from Adventure through Normal, Hard and Expert to Nightmare, and the currency drop rates scale with it.
Boss fights are where Deadzone: Rogue tests everything you've learned. This guide covers strategies for bosses across all areas, organized by progression order. For general combat techniques, see our combat guide.

Zone 1: Who Am I? Bosses
Area difficulty: Easy Recommended level: Sectors 1 to 30, first zone for every new account Recommended build: Elemental proc gunner with VLR Arcblade
Strategy
The first bosses teach core combat mechanics. Focus on learning patterns rather than dealing damage. The story is split into zones: Zone 1 Who Am I?, Zone 2 Keep It Together and Zone 3 Get Out Of My Head, with a fourth added in later updates. This is your primary tool here.
Key tips:
- Don't rush. Learn the attack patterns first.
- Use Zones, sectors and boss floors to create safe windows.
- VLR Arcblade is enough to handle everything here.
Zone 2: Keep It Together Bosses
Area difficulty: Moderate Recommended level: Sectors 1 to 30, after clearing Zone 1 Recommended build: Elemental proc gunner with VLR Arcblade
Strategy
Early game bosses test your understanding of Elemental affixes and proc effects. Players who skipped learning this mechanic will hit a wall here.
Key tips:
- Elemental affixes and proc effects is critical for these fights.
- Farm VLR Arcblade upgrades if you're struggling.
- Consider switching to Elemental proc gunner if your current setup isn't working.
Zone 3: Get Out Of My Head Bosses
Area difficulty: Hard Recommended level: Sectors 1 to 30, after clearing Zone 2 Recommended build: Weakpoint crit marksman with AR-70 Vanguard
Strategy
Mid-game bosses are the major skill check. They combine multiple mechanics and punish players who rely on a single strategy.
Key tips:
- You need both Zones, sectors and boss floors and Perks, augments and armour traits mastery.
- AR-70 Vanguard makes a significant difference. Get it before attempting these.
- See our combat guide for advanced techniques.
Last Stand Bosses
Area difficulty: Very Hard Recommended level: 40 waves, Zone 1 challenge Recommended build: Weakpoint crit marksman with AR-70 Vanguard
Strategy
Late-game bosses are serious challenges. Build optimization matters as much as mechanical skill.
Key tips:
- Make sure your build is fully optimized.
- AR-70 Vanguard at max upgrade is recommended.
- Study each boss's attack patterns. Most have 2-3 phases.
The Long Haul Bosses
Area difficulty: Extreme Recommended level: 54 sectors, Zone 3 challenge Recommended build: Weakpoint crit marksman with AR-70 Vanguard
Strategy
Endgame bosses are the ultimate test. They require mastery of all combat systems and an optimized build.
Key tips:
- Top-tier build with best-in-slot gear is mandatory.
- Master every mechanic. See our combat guide.
- These fights reward patience and pattern recognition above all else.
General Boss Tips
- Learn before you fight: Spend your first attempt observing attack patterns. Don't try to win on attempt one.
- Match your build: Some bosses favor certain builds over others. Don't be afraid to switch.
- Upgrade your equipment: A max-upgraded AR-70 Vanguard trivializes fights that seem impossible with weaker gear.
- Use Zones, sectors and boss floors: The core combat mechanic is your best defensive tool in every boss fight.
- Check the walkthrough: Our walkthrough tells you when you're ready for each boss.
