Destiny 2 Classes & Characters — Complete Guide

Every Destiny 2 role and character explained. Strengths, weaknesses, best gear, and which to pick for your playstyle.

Destiny 2 is Bungie's shared-world looter shooter combining FPS gunplay with MMO-style progression, RPG buildcrafting, and some of gaming's best raid encounters. Three classes — Titan, Hunter, Warlock — each have multiple subclasses with unique supers, grenades, and class abilities. The game's seasonal model adds new story content, activities, and gear regularly. With the addition of Prismatic subclasses combining Light and Dark powers, and the conclusion of the Light and Darkness saga, Destiny 2 offers deep buildcrafting and challenging endgame content.

Choosing the right role shapes your entire experience. This guide breaks down every option — what they're good at, what they struggle with, and which one matches your playstyle. For optimized builds with full gear sets, see our builds guide.

Which Role Should You Pick?

For Beginners

Hunter is the clear winner. It's forgiving, teaches core mechanics, and remains competitive into endgame. Follow our beginner's guide for the best first-session experience.

For Maximum Performance

Titan is the top pick once you understand the game's mechanics. Pair it with Gjallarhorn for the strongest overall setup.

For a Challenge

Strand Build offers the highest skill ceiling. It's punishing when misplayed but incredibly rewarding when mastered. Only recommended after you've completed the game with another role.

For Group Play

Prismatic Build shines in cooperative content with utility and team support capabilities.
