EA Tiburon shipped this one on 16 August 2024 with Christian McCaffrey on the cover, and the headline addition is BOOM Tech, a data driven physics system that runs weight, momentum, speed, strength and player ratings through every collision instead of picking a canned tackle animation. Franchise mode was rebuilt around a new draft night presentation featuring Roger Goodell, with Franchise Central handling league setup. The NFL's new kickoff format is in the game as well.
This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.

See our maps guide for detailed area breakdowns.
Phase 1: Getting Started (Franchise)
Full team management across seasons: preseason, regular season, roster and staff control, trades, and a rebuilt draft night with Roger Goodell announcing picks. Contract talks now factor in player personalities, and team culture is something you set rather than inherit.
Level/Difficulty: Solo or online league, one full 18 week season per year Key Rewards: Draft class control, team and rookie record tracking, and a Super Bowl celebration sequence
What to Do in Franchise
- Learn BOOM Tech physics tackling. Tackles resolve from timing, momentum, weight, speed, strength and the ratings of both players rather than from a prebuilt animation. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
- Pick Improviser quarterback as your starting role. See our builds guide for why.
- BOOM Tech resolves tackles from weight, momentum and ratings, so a light defensive back attacking a power back head on will bounce off. Aim for the ball carrier's legs and use your own momentum rather than pressing the hit stick every time.
- Acquire your first equipment upgrade: Kansas City Chiefs playbook or whatever's available.
- Clear all main content before moving on.
Phase 1 Checklist
- Understand BOOM Tech physics tackling fundamentals
- Improviser quarterback selected and functional
- Franchise main content cleared
- Ready for Ultimate Team
Phase 2: Early Game (Ultimate Team)
The card collection mode, where you build a roster out of players from every franchise using packs, the auction market and challenge rewards. This year added Epic Challenges and easier lineup editing.
Level/Difficulty: Ongoing, no season limit Key Rewards: Player cards, Epic Challenge rewards, and a roster unconstrained by real team boundaries
What to Do in Ultimate Team
- Work on Ball Carrier Balance and Recovery. Runners now carry momentum through contact and track stamina after impacts, so a back who absorbs three hits on a drive loses effectiveness on the fourth. This system becomes critical from here on.
- Farm for Kansas City Chiefs playbook if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
- Ball carrier stamina now drops after impacts, which means a heavy early run script genuinely wears down a defence and your own back. Rotate halfbacks in Franchise rather than riding one for 30 carries.
- Complete all objectives before pushing to Superstar: The League.
- Consider whether Field General quarterback might suit your playstyle better than Improviser quarterback.
Phase 2 Checklist
- Ball Carrier Balance and Recovery integrated into gameplay
- Kansas City Chiefs playbook acquired
- Ultimate Team fully cleared
- Ready for Superstar: The League
Phase 3: Mid Game (Superstar: The League)
The single player career mode, taking one created player from the combine through a professional career. Archetype choice at creation shapes which progression paths open up later.
Level/Difficulty: Single player career, multiple seasons Key Rewards: Player progression, an avatar that carries into Showdown, and archetype specific abilities
What to Do in Superstar: The League
- Master Reloaded hit stick. The hit stick was reworked to give more control on running plays, with the payoff and the risk both scaled by ratings and timing. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
- Start working toward Cincinnati Bengals playbook. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
- Set your Franchise offensive and defensive schemes before the draft, not after. Scheme fit drives how much a rookie develops, and drafting the best available player into the wrong scheme wastes the pick.
- This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
- Start investing in Franchise Central and draft night for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.
Phase 3 Checklist
- Reloaded hit stick mastered
- Cincinnati Bengals playbook acquired or in progress
- Superstar: The League fully cleared
- Ready for Superstar: Showdown
Phase 4: Late Game (Superstar: Showdown)
Takes the avatar from The League online against friends or other players' Superstars in a compressed competitive format. Career progress and Showdown results feed the same player.
Level/Difficulty: Online, short sessions Key Rewards: Career progression from online play and direct comparison against other created players
What to Do in Superstar: Showdown
- Finalize your build. You should be running Field General quarterback or Improviser quarterback with optimized gear.
- Cincinnati Bengals playbook should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
- Use pre snap motion on nearly every passing down. A defender who follows the motion man across the formation is in man coverage, and a defence that passes him off is in zone, which is the fastest read available to you.
- Ultimate Team Epic Challenges optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
- Farm this area for the resources needed to push into Superstar KO.
Phase 4 Checklist
- Build fully optimized
- Cincinnati Bengals playbook upgraded to max
- Superstar: Showdown fully cleared
- Ready for Superstar KO
Phase 5: Endgame (Superstar KO)
A short elimination format inside Quick Play, alongside Play Now, Online Head to Head and the Pro Bowl. Drives are short and there are no punts, which makes it the fastest way to test a playbook.
Level/Difficulty: Online or local, roughly 10 minutes per match Key Rewards: Fast playbook testing and a low commitment way to learn defensive reads
What to Do in Superstar KO
- Superstar KO tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
- Learn three formations from your playbook properly rather than sampling the whole book. Knowing every route combination out of one formation lets you attack whatever coverage shows without hunting through menus at the line.
- The endgame loop: run Superstar KO, optimize gear, push harder content.
- Experiment with Route Runner receiver for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
- This is where Ultimate Team Epic Challenges mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.
Phase 5 Checklist
- Endgame content on farm
- Best-in-slot gear acquired
- Superstar KO fully cleared
- Ready for challenge content
Common Progression Mistakes
- Spamming the hit stick on every tackle attempt and giving up long runs when the timing misses cleanly.
- Drafting the highest overall rookie in Franchise without checking whether he fits the scheme you set.
- Running the same halfback 30 times a game and watching his effectiveness collapse in the fourth quarter.
- Buying expensive Ultimate Team cards from mismatched teams instead of building chemistry around one pool.
- Blitzing on first and ten against a human opponent who has already shown he will throw the hot route.
Key Tips for Smooth Progression
- BOOM Tech resolves tackles from weight, momentum and ratings, so a light defensive back attacking a power back head on will bounce off. Aim for the ball carrier's legs and use your own momentum rather than pressing the hit stick every time.
- Ball carrier stamina now drops after impacts, which means a heavy early run script genuinely wears down a defence and your own back. Rotate halfbacks in Franchise rather than riding one for 30 carries.
