Core Mechanics
FC IQ Player Roles
Each position gets a role such as Falseback, Inside Forward or Deep Lying Playmaker, and the role decides how the player moves without the ball. Roles replaced the old slider based custom tactics, so tactical work now happens in the squad screen rather than in numeric settings.
Role Familiarity tiers
A player is rated standard, plus or double plus at a given role. Double plus players execute the role's movement fully, while a player forced into an unfamiliar role loses much of the off ball intelligence the role is supposed to provide.
Rush 5v5
Four human players plus an AI goalkeeper per side on a smaller pitch with a blue card sin bin instead of red cards. Rewards earned in Ultimate Team Rush feed back into your main 11v11 club.
PlayStyles and PlayStyles+
Opta derived traits like Finesse Shot, Power Shot, Trivela and Rapid change how specific animations behave for that player. The plus version pushes the effect further, which is why a 84 rated card with the right PlayStyle+ often outperforms an 88 without one.
Ultimate Team Evolutions
Evolutions upgrade an existing card's ratings, PlayStyles and Roles by completing set challenges. They keep cheap early season cards relevant instead of forcing constant repurchasing on the transfer market.

Power Shot: Held with both bumpers plus shoot, it fires a high velocity strike with a longer wind up and a camera pull. The animation is slow enough that a defender in range will block it.
Finesse Shot: Curled with the shoot modifier, aiming for the far corner from the edge of the box. Players with the Finesse Shot PlayStyle bend it noticeably harder and from further out.
Trivela: An outside of the boot pass or shot with a faster wind up than the standard animation. It bends away from the keeper and is far quicker to execute than a Finesse Shot.
La Croqueta: A four star skill move that shifts the ball from one foot to the other while running, beating a defender who has committed. It costs very little momentum compared with most skill moves.
Ball Roll: A two star move that drags the ball sideways with the right stick and sets up a change of direction. Chained into a sprint it beats defenders who lunge into the tackle.

Football Ultimate Team: The card collecting mode where you build a squad from packs, the transfer market and Squad Building Challenges. Division Rivals and Champions provide the weekly competitive ladder and the bulk of the rewards.

Clubs: Eleven a side online play where each person controls one Virtual Pro on a shared club. Rush is now part of the Clubs progression path, so small sided play feeds your Pro's development.

Tips That Actually Matter
- Role Familiarity is worth more than a couple of overall points. An 84 rated fullback with Falseback double plus will position himself far better in build up than an 87 without the role, so filter the transfer market by role before you filter by rating.
- Power Shot rewards patience, not panic. The wind up is long enough that a defender inside about three metres blocks it, so use it only when the lane is genuinely clear from around twenty metres out.
- Set at least one fullback to Falseback if you struggle to play out from the back. He tucks into midfield in possession and gives you an extra passing option when the opponent presses your centre backs.
- Evolutions keep cheap cards viable well past their normal shelf life. Running an Evolution on a card you already own is usually better value than spending the same coins chasing a higher rated player on the market.
- Trivela is faster than a Finesse Shot and beats keepers who have already committed to the near post. Use it for through balls too, since the outside of the boot pass reaches runners a beat earlier.
- In Rush, the blue card sin bin means fouling near your own box costs you a player for a chunk of the match. Jockey instead of sliding, because a five a side team down one player concedes almost immediately.
- Check whether your CDM is on Holding or Deep Lying Playmaker before blaming the formation. Holding stays back and screens the defence; Deep Lying Playmaker drops wide to receive and leaves that screening job to someone else.
- PlayStyles+ traits are the single biggest determinant of how a card feels. Rapid+ on a winger and Finesse Shot+ on a cutting inside forward both change outcomes more than five points of overall rating.
- Live Start Points in Career Mode let you begin from a real world league position rather than the start of the season. It is the fastest way to test a tactical setup without playing thirty matches to reach a meaningful table position.
- Ball Roll chained into a sprint is the most efficient skill move in the game because it costs almost no momentum. Learn it before spending time on five star moves that leave you standing still if you fumble the input.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Buying cards on rating alone and ignoring whether they can even use the role you need.
- Spamming Power Shot from inside the box where defenders block it.
- Leaving every midfielder on the default role instead of setting one creator and one screener.
- Sliding into tackles in Rush and losing a player to the blue card sin bin.
- Ignoring Evolutions early in the cycle and overspending on the transfer market instead.
