EA released FC 25 on 27 September 2024, and its headline change was FC IQ, a tactical system that replaced custom tactics with more than 50 Player Roles driven by real match data. The other big addition was Rush, a 5v5 mode with an AI goalkeeper that runs inside Ultimate Team, Clubs and Kick Off. Career Mode also gained women's leagues and Live Start Points for jumping into real season situations.

Core Combat Mechanics
1. FC IQ Player Roles
Each position gets a role such as Falseback, Inside Forward or Deep Lying Playmaker, and the role decides how the player moves without the ball. Roles replaced the old slider based custom tactics, so tactical work now happens in the squad screen rather than in numeric settings.
Why it matters: This is the foundation of all combat. Everything else builds on this.
2. Role Familiarity tiers
A player is rated standard, plus or double plus at a given role. Double plus players execute the role's movement fully, while a player forced into an unfamiliar role loses much of the off ball intelligence the role is supposed to provide.
Why it matters: The most underrated mechanic. Players who master this early have a massive advantage.
3. Rush 5v5
Four human players plus an AI goalkeeper per side on a smaller pitch with a blue card sin bin instead of red cards. Rewards earned in Ultimate Team Rush feed back into your main 11v11 club.
Why it matters: Unlocks a new layer of gameplay depth once understood.
4. PlayStyles and PlayStyles+
Opta derived traits like Finesse Shot, Power Shot, Trivela and Rapid change how specific animations behave for that player. The plus version pushes the effect further, which is why a 84 rated card with the right PlayStyle+ often outperforms an 88 without one.
Why it matters: The tactical edge that separates average players from advanced ones.
5. Ultimate Team Evolutions
Evolutions upgrade an existing card's ratings, PlayStyles and Roles by completing set challenges. They keep cheap early season cards relevant instead of forcing constant repurchasing on the transfer market.
Why it matters: The endgame optimization mechanic. Small improvements here compound into massive gains.

Survivability

- Role Familiarity is worth more than a couple of overall points. An 84 rated fullback with Falseback double plus will position himself far better in build up than an 87 without the role, so filter the transfer market by role before you filter by rating.

- Button mashing: Committed attacks have recovery frames. Mashing locks you into animations.
