EA released FC 25 on 27 September 2024, and its headline change was FC IQ, a tactical system that replaced custom tactics with more than 50 Player Roles driven by real match data. The other big addition was Rush, a 5v5 mode with an AI goalkeeper that runs inside Ultimate Team, Clubs and Kick Off. Career Mode also gained women's leagues and Live Start Points for jumping into real season situations.

This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.

Phase 1: Getting Started (Football Ultimate Team)

The card collecting mode where you build a squad from packs, the transfer market and Squad Building Challenges. Division Rivals and Champions provide the weekly competitive ladder and the bulk of the rewards.

Level/Difficulty: Division 10 to Division 1 and Elite Key Rewards: Packs, coins, Champions qualification

What to Do in Football Ultimate Team

  1. Learn FC IQ Player Roles. Each position gets a role such as Falseback, Inside Forward or Deep Lying Playmaker, and the role decides how the player moves without the ball. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
  2. Pick 4-3-3 (4) as your starting role. See our builds guide for why.
  3. Role Familiarity is worth more than a couple of overall points. An 84 rated fullback with Falseback double plus will position himself far better in build up than an 87 without the role, so filter the transfer market by role before you filter by rating.
  4. Acquire your first equipment upgrade: Finesse Shot or whatever's available.
  5. Clear all main content before moving on.

Phase 1 Checklist

  • Understand FC IQ Player Roles fundamentals
  • 4-3-3 (4) selected and functional
  • Football Ultimate Team main content cleared
  • Ready for Rush

Phase 2: Early Game (Rush)

A 5v5 mode with four human players, an AI keeper, a smaller pitch and blue cards instead of red. It runs inside Ultimate Team, Clubs and Kick Off, and Ultimate Team rewards from it carry into the main squad.

Level/Difficulty: Any skill level Key Rewards: Ultimate Team rewards, Clubs progression

What to Do in Rush

  1. Work on Role Familiarity tiers. A player is rated standard, plus or double plus at a given role. This system becomes critical from here on.
  2. Farm for Finesse Shot if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
  3. Power Shot rewards patience, not panic. The wind up is long enough that a defender inside about three metres blocks it, so use it only when the lane is genuinely clear from around twenty metres out.
  4. Complete all objectives before pushing to Manager Career.
  5. Consider whether 4-2-3-1 might suit your playstyle better than 4-3-3 (4).

Phase 2 Checklist

  • Role Familiarity tiers integrated into gameplay
  • Finesse Shot acquired
  • Rush fully cleared
  • Ready for Manager Career

Phase 3: Mid Game (Manager Career)

The long form save where you sign players, set tactics and develop youth across multiple seasons. FC 25 added women's leagues and Live Start Points that drop you into real world season scenarios.

Level/Difficulty: Season 1 onward Key Rewards: Youth academy talent, trophies, transfer budget growth

What to Do in Manager Career

  1. Master Rush 5v5. Four human players plus an AI goalkeeper per side on a smaller pitch with a blue card sin bin instead of red cards. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
  2. Start working toward Power Shot. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
  3. Set at least one fullback to Falseback if you struggle to play out from the back. He tucks into midfield in possession and gives you an extra passing option when the opponent presses your centre backs.
  4. This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
  5. Start investing in PlayStyles and PlayStyles+ for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.

Phase 3 Checklist

  • Rush 5v5 mastered
  • Power Shot acquired or in progress
  • Manager Career fully cleared
  • Ready for Player Career

Phase 4: Late Game (Player Career)

A single player journey through a created or existing footballer's career, with match objectives, agent goals and transfer requests. Role Familiarity matters directly, since your rating depends on doing your assigned role's job.

Level/Difficulty: Youth prospect to world class Key Rewards: Player growth, awards, bigger club moves

What to Do in Player Career

  1. Finalize your build. You should be running 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 (4) with optimized gear.
  2. Power Shot should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
  3. Evolutions keep cheap cards viable well past their normal shelf life. Running an Evolution on a card you already own is usually better value than spending the same coins chasing a higher rated player on the market.
  4. Ultimate Team Evolutions optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
  5. Farm this area for the resources needed to push into Clubs.

Phase 4 Checklist

  • Build fully optimized
  • Power Shot upgraded to max
  • Player Career fully cleared
  • Ready for Clubs

Phase 5: Endgame (Clubs)

Eleven a side online play where each person controls one Virtual Pro on a shared club. Rush is now part of the Clubs progression path, so small sided play feeds your Pro's development.

Level/Difficulty: Division 5 to Division 1 Key Rewards: Virtual Pro progression, club cosmetics

What to Do in Clubs

  1. Clubs tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
  2. Trivela is faster than a Finesse Shot and beats keepers who have already committed to the near post. Use it for through balls too, since the outside of the boot pass reaches runners a beat earlier.
  3. The endgame loop: run Clubs, optimize gear, push harder content.
  4. Experiment with 4-2-2-2 for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
  5. This is where Ultimate Team Evolutions mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.

Phase 5 Checklist

  • Endgame content on farm
  • Best-in-slot gear acquired
  • Clubs fully cleared
  • Ready for challenge content

Common Progression Mistakes

  • Buying cards on rating alone and ignoring whether they can even use the role you need
  • Spamming Power Shot from inside the box where defenders block it
  • Leaving every midfielder on the default role instead of setting one creator and one screener
  • Sliding into tackles in Rush and losing a player to the blue card sin bin
  • Ignoring Evolutions early in the cycle and overspending on the transfer market instead

Key Tips for Smooth Progression

  1. Role Familiarity is worth more than a couple of overall points. An 84 rated fullback with Falseback double plus will position himself far better in build up than an 87 without the role, so filter the transfer market by role before you filter by rating.
  2. Power Shot rewards patience, not panic. The wind up is long enough that a defender inside about three metres blocks it, so use it only when the lane is genuinely clear from around twenty metres out.
  3. Set at least one fullback to Falseback if you struggle to play out from the back. He tucks into midfield in possession and gives you an extra passing option when the opponent presses your centre backs.
  4. Evolutions keep cheap cards viable well past their normal shelf life. Running an Evolution on a card you already own is usually better value than spending the same coins chasing a higher rated player on the market.
  5. Trivela is faster than a Finesse Shot and beats keepers who have already committed to the near post. Use it for through balls too, since the outside of the boot pass reaches runners a beat earlier.
