CCP Games launched EVE Online on May 6, 2003 and it still runs on a single shard, so all of the roughly 7,800 star systems in New Eden are shared by the entire playerbase at once. Skills train in real time whether the client is open or not, and a destroyed ship is gone for good along with most of its fittings. Free Alpha accounts cover a wide slice of the game; Omega subscriptions open the rest.

EVE Online features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.

Jita 4-4: Starting Area

The Caldari Navy Assembly Plant in the Jita system, The Forge region. The main trade hub of New Eden with the deepest order book in the game, which makes it the reference price for nearly every item.

Low-sec: Early Game

Security 0.4 down to 0.1. CONCORD does not respond, though gate and station guns still do. Faction Warfare, better exploration sites and pirate ratting all live in this band.

What to Do Here

  • Focus on mastering Security status zones. It's critical from this point on.
  • Farm for Energy turrets if you don't have it yet.
  • Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
  • Prepare for the difficulty spike in Null-sec.

Null-sec: Mid Game

Sovereignty space held by player alliances. The best ratting income, the best ore and moon mining, and no rules whatsoever about who is allowed to shoot you.

Wormhole space: Late Game

J-space systems with no stargates and no local chat, so you never know who else is in system. Connections shift constantly and every entrance is temporary.

What to Do Here

  • Full build optimization is expected by this point.
  • Hybrid turrets should be your primary, fully upgraded.
  • Player driven market mastery starts mattering here.
  • Farm resources for the push into Abyssal Deadspace.

Abyssal Deadspace: Endgame

Instanced pockets entered with filaments and run against a 20 minute timer. Difficulty runs from tier 1 to tier 6, and failing the timer destroys your ship outright.

What to Do Here

  • This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
  • See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
  • The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
  • Experiment with Hauler for variety once you've mastered the meta.

Exploration Tips

  1. Clear areas in order: Jita 4-4 → Low-sec → Null-sec → Wormhole space → Abyssal Deadspace. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
  2. Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
  3. Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
  4. Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
  5. Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
