Netmarble Neo put Game of Thrones: Kingsroad into Steam Early Access on 26 March 2025 and released it on 21 May 2025 as a free to play action RPG. You play an invented character, the bastard heir of House Tyre, whose siblings died at the Red Wedding, and the story fills gaps around Season 4 of the HBO show. Combat is fully manual, with light and heavy attacks, dodging and parrying rather than automated fighting.
Boss fights are where Game of Thrones: Kingsroad tests everything you've learned. This guide covers strategies for bosses across all areas, organized by progression order. For general combat techniques, see our combat guide.
Boss Difficulty Overview
| Area | Difficulty | Recommended Role | Key Weapons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Castle Black | Easy | Sellsword | Two handed axe |
| Winterfell | Moderate | Sellsword | Two handed axe |
| King's Landing | Hard | Knight | Longsword |
| Hornwood | Very Hard | Knight | Longsword |
| Storm's End | Extreme | Knight | Longsword |
Castle Black Bosses
Area difficulty: Easy Recommended level: Opening chapter Recommended role: Sellsword with Two handed axe
Strategy
The first bosses teach core combat mechanics. Focus on learning patterns rather than dealing damage. Knight, Sellsword and Assassin are the only classes, and each is styled after a show character: the Knight after Jaime Lannister, the Sellsword after Tormund, the Assassin after Arya Stark. This is your primary tool here.
Key tips:
- Don't rush. Learn the attack patterns first.
- Use Three fixed classes to create safe windows.
- Two handed axe is enough to handle everything here.
Winterfell Bosses
Area difficulty: Moderate Recommended level: Early to mid campaign Recommended role: Sellsword with Two handed axe
Strategy
Early game bosses test your understanding of Manual dodge and parry combat. Players who skipped learning this mechanic will hit a wall here.
Key tips:
- Manual dodge and parry combat is critical for these fights.
- Farm Two handed axe upgrades if you're struggling.
- Consider switching to Sellsword if your current setup isn't working.
King's Landing Bosses
Area difficulty: Hard Recommended level: Mid campaign Recommended role: Knight with Longsword
Strategy
Mid-game bosses are the major skill check. They combine multiple mechanics and punish players who rely on a single strategy.
Key tips:
- You need both Three fixed classes and Weapon swapping mid fight mastery.
- Longsword makes a significant difference. Get it before attempting these.
- See our combat guide for advanced techniques.
Hornwood Bosses
Area difficulty: Very Hard Recommended level: Late campaign and endgame Recommended role: Knight with Longsword
Strategy
Late-game bosses are serious challenges. Build optimization matters as much as mechanical skill.
Key tips:
- Make sure your build is fully optimized.
- Longsword at max upgrade is recommended.
- Study each boss's attack patterns. Most have 2-3 phases.
Storm's End Bosses
Area difficulty: Extreme Recommended level: Chapter 3, endgame progression Recommended role: Knight with Longsword
Strategy
Endgame bosses are the ultimate test. They require mastery of all combat systems and an optimized build.
Key tips:
- Top-tier build with best-in-slot gear is mandatory.
- Master every mechanic. See our combat guide.
- These fights reward patience and pattern recognition above all else.
General Boss Tips
- Learn before you fight: Spend your first attempt observing attack patterns. Don't try to win on attempt one.
- Match your build: Some bosses favor certain builds over others. Don't be afraid to switch.
- Upgrade your weapons: A max-upgraded Longsword trivializes fights that seem impossible with weaker gear.
- Use Three fixed classes: The core combat mechanic is your best defensive tool in every boss fight.
- Check the walkthrough: Our walkthrough tells you when you're ready for each boss.
