Netmarble Neo put Game of Thrones: Kingsroad into Steam Early Access on 26 March 2025 and released it on 21 May 2025 as a free to play action RPG. You play an invented character, the bastard heir of House Tyre, whose siblings died at the Red Wedding, and the story fills gaps around Season 4 of the HBO show. Combat is fully manual, with light and heavy attacks, dodging and parrying rather than automated fighting.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.

  • Clear all main content before moving to Winterfell.
  • If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.

Winterfell: Early Game

The Northern seat your house is sworn to, and one of the show locations rebuilt for the game. House Tyre's loyalty to the Starks and the aftermath of the Red Wedding drive most of the questing here.

Hornwood: Late Game

A Northern region whose eastern edge hosts the Drogon field boss on a fixed timer. Killing it is one of the few dependable ways to see legendary grade equipment drop.

What to Do Here

  • Full build optimization is expected by this point.

  • Farm resources for the push into Storm's End.

Storm's End: Endgame

Added along with Felwood in the Chapter 3 content that landed at the May 2025 grand launch, together with a Unicorn boss encounter. It marks the point where the campaign stops being a Northern story.

What to Do Here

  • This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
  • See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
  • The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
  • Experiment with Weapon swap loadout for variety once you've mastered the meta.

Exploration Tips

  1. Clear areas in order: Castle Black → Winterfell → King's Landing → Hornwood → Storm's End. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
  2. Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
  3. Match your weapons: Some areas favor different weapons types.
  4. Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
  5. Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
