Frontier released Jurassic World Evolution 2 on 9 November 2021 and moved the series off a fictional island chain onto the mainland United States. The campaign puts you inside the Department of Fish and Wildlife after the events of Fallen Kingdom, working across five states while Jeff Goldblum returns as Ian Malcolm. Lagoons for marine reptiles and aviaries for pterosaurs are the two headline additions over the 2018 original, and the reworked terrain system means herbivores now need the right vegetation planted rather than a generic green patch. Eight major paid packs followed through to May 2024, including a Dominion campaign set in the Biosyn Sanctuary.

Jurassic World Evolution 2 features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.

Arizona: Starting Area

The opening campaign mission and effectively a tutorial, teaching containment, feeding and basic ranger work in a dry biome. Objectives are tightly scripted, so use it to learn the interface rather than to experiment.

What to Do Here

Washington: Early Game

The second campaign map, still heavily guided, and the point where weather and terrain start to matter more than they did in Arizona. Treat it as free practice with the Ranger Team systems.

Pennsylvania: Mid Game

The third mission and the first where the game hands real decisions back to you, with a laboratory focus that leans on genome work. This is where players who skipped the science screens start to struggle.

Oregon: Late Game

The fourth campaign map, another largely directed mission that keeps the pace up before the finale. Use it to bank species knowledge you will want in California.

What to Do Here

  • Full build optimization is expected by this point.
  • Hatchery should be your primary, fully upgraded.
  • Fossil expeditions and genome viability mastery starts mattering here.
  • Farm resources for the push into California.

California: Endgame

The fifth and final campaign mission, set in Yosemite National Park, and the one that gives you the most freedom of the five. It is the payoff for everything the earlier maps drilled.

What to Do Here

  • This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
  • See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
  • The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
  • Experiment with Dominion Biosyn Expansion for variety once you've mastered the meta.

Exploration Tips

  1. Clear areas in order: Arizona → Washington → Pennsylvania → Oregon → California. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
  2. Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
  3. Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
  4. Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
  5. Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
