Need for Speed Heat is Ghost Games' November 2019 entry, set in Palm City, a fictional Florida sprawl split into 18 districts holding 435 collectible and challenge locations. The day belongs to the Speedhunters Showdown, where sanctioned events pay Bank and the police stay home. The night belongs to illicit street racing, where you earn Rep and Lieutenant Frank Mercer's police force tries to take it off you before you reach a garage.

This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.

Phase 1: Getting Started (Downtown Palm City)

The dense central district, all right angles, traffic and short blocks. It is the worst place in Palm City to be at Heat 4 or higher, because the police get corner cuts you do not.

Level/Difficulty: Car rating 100 to 250, early to mid game Key Rewards: Speed traps, billboards and street art clustered tightly enough to clear in one night

What to Do in Downtown Palm City

  1. Learn Day and night switch. Palm City runs on a manual toggle, not a clock. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
  2. Pick Night Racer (Rep and Heat) as your starting build. See our builds guide for why.
  3. Rep is not yours until you park at a garage or safe house. Every point you are carrying at Heat 4 or 5 disappears the moment you are busted, along with a Bank fine, so the correct night is a short one that ends deliberately.
  4. Acquire your first equipment upgrade: Nitrous or whatever's available.
  5. Clear all main content before moving on.

Phase 1 Checklist

  • Understand Day and night switch fundamentals
  • Night Racer (Rep and Heat) selected and functional
  • Downtown Palm City main content cleared
  • Ready for Port Murphy

Phase 2: Early Game (Port Murphy)

Docks, container stacks and long industrial straights on the water. The wide surfaces make it one of the more forgiving districts for learning a drift build without wrecking on scenery.

Level/Difficulty: Car rating 150 to 300 Key Rewards: Drift zones and long jumps, plus straight sections that suit top-speed testing

What to Do in Port Murphy

  1. Work on Bank and Rep as separate currencies. Bank buys cars and parts. This system becomes critical from here on.
  2. Farm for Nitrous if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
  3. Heat 3 brings faster pursuit units and Heat 5 puts a helicopter overhead, which removes most of the value of hiding in an alley. Plan the route to a safe house before you push into the top tier, not after.
  4. Complete all objectives before pushing to Fort Callahan.
  5. Consider whether Day Racer (Speedhunters Showdown) might suit your playstyle better than Night Racer (Rep and Heat).

Phase 2 Checklist

  • Bank and Rep as separate currencies integrated into gameplay
  • Nitrous acquired
  • Port Murphy fully cleared
  • Ready for Fort Callahan

Phase 3: Mid Game (Fort Callahan)

The military district, laid out around wide open concrete and sightlines that let a helicopter track you from a long way off. Escapes here need a plan, not just speed.

Level/Difficulty: Car rating 250 and up Key Rewards: High Heat night events and the volatile parts they drop

What to Do in Fort Callahan

  1. Master Heat level and getting busted. Heat climbs from 1 to 5 across a night as you race and wreck pursuing police, and the multiplier on the Rep you are carrying climbs with it. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
  2. Start working toward Engine Swap. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
  3. High Heat events are the only ones that pay both Bank and Rep and the only source of the volatile parts that top out at Ultimate+. Finishing one at Heat 5 is the single most efficient hour in the game.
  4. This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
  5. Start investing in Performance parts and the handling profile for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.

Phase 3 Checklist

  • Heat level and getting busted mastered
  • Engine Swap acquired or in progress
  • Fort Callahan fully cleared
  • Ready for Eden Shores

Phase 4: Late Game (Eden Shores)

Coastal and residential, with sweeping seafront roads that reward a grip build over a drift build. A safe house sits close enough to the main strip to bank a Heat 4 night without a long run.

Level/Difficulty: Car rating 200 to 350 Key Rewards: Circuit and sprint events, flamingos and collectibles along the shore

What to Do in Eden Shores

  1. Finalize your build. You should be running Day Racer (Speedhunters Showdown) or Night Racer (Rep and Heat) with optimized gear.
  2. Engine Swap should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
  3. The overall rating from 100 to 400 is calculated from power, high speed and acceleration only. Nitrous has its own number that never moves the total, so do not compare two builds by rating alone if one is carrying much better nitrous.
  4. Live Tuning optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
  5. Farm this area for the resources needed to push into Sandino Ranches.

Phase 4 Checklist

  • Build fully optimized
  • Engine Swap upgraded to max
  • Eden Shores fully cleared
  • Ready for Sandino Ranches

Phase 5: Endgame (Sandino Ranches)

Open farmland and dirt trails on the outskirts, one of the main homes for cross-country events. Off-road tires and Speedcross suspension turn a losing car into a winning one here more than anywhere else on the map.

Level/Difficulty: Car rating 150 to 300 Key Rewards: Off-Road Races, shortcuts through fields, and quiet ground for shaking a pursuit

What to Do in Sandino Ranches

  1. Sandino Ranches tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
  2. Read the handling profile graph before you buy chassis and drivetrain parts. A car sitting deep in the drift quadrant will understeer badly through a technical circuit no matter how high the rating climbs.
  3. The endgame loop: run Sandino Ranches, optimize gear, push harder content.
  4. Experiment with Off-Road Build for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
  5. This is where Live Tuning mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.

Phase 5 Checklist

  • Endgame content on farm
  • Best-in-slot gear acquired
  • Sandino Ranches fully cleared
  • Ready for challenge content

Common Progression Mistakes

  • Chasing Heat 5 on the first night of a save, then losing an hour of Rep to a police roadblock two streets from a safe house.
  • Buying the Koenigsegg Regera at 1,227,500 Bank and having nothing left for ultimate parts, which leaves a 400 chassis running stock components.
  • Fitting drag tires and Speedcross suspension to a circuit car because a drift guide recommended them, then wondering why it will not hold a line.
  • Grinding Bank all day and never racing at night, which leaves Rep low and locks the good parts behind a level you have not earned.
  • Treating the rating number as a ranking. A 346 P1 built for the event beats a 400 build aimed at the wrong discipline every time.

Key Tips for Smooth Progression

  1. Rep is not yours until you park at a garage or safe house. Every point you are carrying at Heat 4 or 5 disappears the moment you are busted, along with a Bank fine, so the correct night is a short one that ends deliberately.
  2. Heat 3 brings faster pursuit units and Heat 5 puts a helicopter overhead, which removes most of the value of hiding in an alley. Plan the route to a safe house before you push into the top tier, not after.
  3. High Heat events are the only ones that pay both Bank and Rep and the only source of the volatile parts that top out at Ultimate+. Finishing one at Heat 5 is the single most efficient hour in the game.
  4. The overall rating from 100 to 400 is calculated from power, high speed and acceleration only. Nitrous has its own number that never moves the total, so do not compare two builds by rating alone if one is carrying much better nitrous.
  5. Read the handling profile graph before you buy chassis and drivetrain parts. A car sitting deep in the drift quadrant will understeer badly through a technical circuit no matter how high the rating climbs.
