PopCap released Plants vs. Zombies on 5 May 2009, and the Game of the Year Edition is the build Steam still sells today. Adventure Mode runs 50 levels across five settings, supported by 49 plants, 26 zombie types and 21 Steam achievements. Dr. Zomboss closes the campaign at level 5 to 10 in his own machine.

Day: Starting Area
The front lawn in daylight, where sun falls from the sky for free and the zombie roster stays simple. Level 1 to 10 introduces the Pole Vaulting Zombie, which hops the first plant it meets.

What to Do Here
- Learn the basics of Sun economy. This is where you practice without heavy punishment.
- Collect starting resources and your first equipment upgrade.
- Clear all main content before moving to Night.
- If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.
Night: Early Game
The same lawn after dark, with no free sun and gravestones blocking tiles. Mushrooms are cheap or free to compensate, and Grave Buster removes the stones before they release anything.

|---|---|
| Difficulty | Levels 2 to 1 through 2 to 10 |

- Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
- Prepare for the difficulty spike in Pool.
Pool: Mid Game
The backyard in daylight, with two water lanes cutting through the middle of the six row grid. Every plant in the water needs a Lily Pad underneath it, and Dolphin Rider Zombies leap over your first defender.

- Check our boss guide if you get stuck.
Fog: Late Game
The pool at night, with heavy fog hiding the right half of the lawn so you cannot see what is coming. Plantern at 25 sun clears a circle of it, and Blover blows the fog away briefly along with Balloon Zombies.

Roof: Endgame
A sloped rooftop where nothing can be planted without a Flower Pot and straight shooters fly over anything standing close. Bungee Zombies drop in to steal plants, and the campaign ends here against Dr. Zomboss.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|

| Key Rewards | Cabbage-pult, Flower Pot, Kernel-pult, Coffee Bean, Garlic, Umbrella Leaf, Marigold, Melon-pult |

What to Do Here
- This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
- See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
- The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
- Experiment with Instant kill plants for variety once you've mastered the meta.
Exploration Tips
- Clear areas in order: Day → Night → Pool → Fog → Roof. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
- Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
- Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
- Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
- Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
