Stranded Deep Maps & Locations Guide — Every Area Covered

Complete Stranded Deep maps and locations guide. Every area with difficulty, rewards, progression order, and what to do in each zone.

Stranded Deep puts you in the aftermath of a plane crash in the Pacific Ocean, stranded with nothing but a life raft and a survival knife. You must island-hop across a procedurally generated archipelago, gathering resources, crafting tools, and building shelters while managing hunger, thirst, and health. The game features three massive boss creatures guarding the parts needed to build an escape vehicle. With realistic survival mechanics including sunstroke, poison, and bleeding, Stranded Deep offers a tense castaway experience that rewards careful planning and resource management.

Stranded Deep features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order — what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.

Starting Island — Starting Area

Your crash site with the life raft containing a compass, watch, and survival knife. The starting island has basic palm trees, rocks, and usually a few crates with starting supplies. Establish a Water Still immediately and a basic shelter before exploring. The life raft itself provides emergency shelter.

What to Do Here

  • Learn the basics of raft building — this is where you practice without heavy punishment.
  • Collect starting resources and your first equipment upgrade.
  • Clear all main content before moving to Deep Sea.
  • If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.

Deep Sea — Early Game

The open ocean between islands contains sharks (including Tiger Sharks and Great Whites), whales, and underwater resources. Shipwrecks on the ocean floor hold crucial salvage items (motors, electrical parts, gyrocopter components). Diving shipwrecks is dangerous due to shark aggression near wrecks.

What to Do Here

  • Focus on mastering island resources — it's critical from this point on.
  • Farm for Crude Bow if you don't have it yet.
  • Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
  • Prepare for the difficulty spike in Aircraft Carrier.

Aircraft Carrier — Mid Game

A static landmark featuring a massive wrecked aircraft carrier. It contains unique loot including ship parts, crates, and components not found on regular islands. The interior has multiple levels to explore. One of the few guaranteed locations in every generated world.

Boss Islands — Late Game

Three specific islands each host a boss creature. The Megalodon circles its island in deep water, the Moray Eel hides in an underwater cave system, and the Great Abaia lurks in deep trenches. Each boss drops a trophy required for the gyrocopter. Prepare extensively before engaging.

What to Do Here

  • Full build optimization is expected by this point.
  • Refined Spear should be your primary, fully upgraded.
  • health management mastery starts mattering here.
  • Farm resources for the push into Buoy Balls.

Buoy Balls — Endgame

Floating orange buoy balls scattered across the ocean serve as the best raft buoyancy modules — better than tires or barrels. Collecting 4-6 buoy balls creates an extremely stable raft base. They're visible from distance on the water surface, making them easy to spot during sailing.

What to Do Here

  • This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
  • See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
  • The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
  • Experiment with Speedrunner for variety once you've mastered the meta.

Exploration Tips

  1. Clear areas in order — Starting Island → Deep Sea → Aircraft Carrier → Boss Islands → Buoy Balls. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
  2. Check every corner — Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
  3. Match your equipment — Some areas favor different equipment types.
  4. Read the walkthrough — Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
  5. Don't rush — Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
