The Isle's Evrima branch is the only build in active development, and it currently offers 18 playable creatures on a single map, Gateway, which replaced the older Isla Spiro. You hatch small, grow in real time, and reaching adult size on a large species costs hours of finding food, water and cover without dying once. Death does not cost you gear, because there is no gear: it costs you every minute of growth you had banked.
This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.
Quick Progression Summary

See our maps guide for detailed area breakdowns.
Phase 1: Getting Started (Highlands)
Elevated ground in the north of Gateway holding a salt lick, a lake, a cave and several bridges and outposts. The height advantage makes it a common herbivore migration destination and therefore a common ambush zone.
Level/Difficulty: Juvenile to adult Key Rewards: Salt lick, Highlands Lake water, cave shelter, migration traffic
What to Do in Highlands
- Learn Real time growth. You spawn as a juvenile at a fraction of adult size and grow continuously as long as you stay fed and alive. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
- Pick Deinosuchus as your starting build. See our builds guide for why.
- Treat thirst as the primary clock, not hunger. Water sources on Gateway are fixed points and every predator knows where they are, so drink early at a quiet pond rather than sprinting to a busy one on an empty bar.
- Acquire your first equipment upgrade: Venom spit or whatever's available.
- Clear all main content before moving on.
Phase 1 Checklist
- Understand Real time growth fundamentals
- Deinosuchus selected and functional
- Highlands main content cleared
- Ready for Swamp
Phase 2: Early Game (Swamp)
Wet lowland with its own sanctuary, salt lick and the tunnel called Swamp Passage bored through the mountain. Deep water and heavy cover make it the strongest Deinosuchus territory on the map.
Level/Difficulty: Sub adult and above Key Rewards: Swamp Sanctuary, Swamp Salt Lick, deep water ambush ground
What to Do in Swamp
- Work on Hunger thirst and stamina. Food and water drain the whole time and drain faster while sprinting. This system becomes critical from here on.
- Farm for Venom spit if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
- When you take bleed, stop. Running keeps the wound open and the bleed track will kill you at full health, while resting in cover for a short period lets it clot and costs you nothing but time.
- Complete all objectives before pushing to Water Access.
- Consider whether Tyrannosaurus might suit your playstyle better than Deinosuchus.
Phase 2 Checklist
- Hunger thirst and stamina integrated into gameplay
- Venom spit acquired
- Swamp fully cleared
- Ready for Water Access
Phase 3: Mid Game (Water Access)
A dammed region with east and west ponds, a sanctuary and a salt lick clustered together. The concentration of resources means constant traffic, which is good for growth and dangerous for the same reason.
Level/Difficulty: Hatchling to sub adult Key Rewards: Water Access Dam, twin ponds, sanctuary, salt lick
What to Do in Water Access
- Master Bleed and bone fractures. Bleed is a separate damage track that kills you at full health if you keep running instead of resting to clot. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
- Start working toward Thagomizer tail swipe. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
- Use scent as prey, not just as a predator. A fresh large carnivore trail crossing your feeding area is the only warning you get before something faster than you arrives.
- This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
- Start investing in Scent tracking for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.
Phase 3 Checklist
- Bleed and bone fractures mastered
- Thagomizer tail swipe acquired or in progress
- Water Access fully cleared
- Ready for Plains
Phase 4: Late Game (Plains)
Open grassland with a wallowing hole, the Plains Pond and the Plains River migration corridor. Sightlines run long here, so nothing small survives crossing it without checking scent first.
Level/Difficulty: Sub adult and above Key Rewards: Plains Pond, wallowing hole, open grazing
What to Do in Plains
- Finalize your build. You should be running Tyrannosaurus or Deinosuchus with optimized gear.
- Thagomizer tail swipe should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
- Grow inside a triangle of a water source, a food source and hard cover. Wandering between distant regions as a juvenile is what kills most runs, not losing a fight you chose to take.
- Mutations optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
- Farm this area for the resources needed to push into River Delta.
Phase 4 Checklist
- Build fully optimized
- Thagomizer tail swipe upgraded to max
- Plains fully cleared
- Ready for River Delta
Phase 5: Endgame (River Delta)
Where the river fans out toward the ocean, taking in the Delta Outpost and the Ocean Delta migration zone. Prey funnels through it to drink, which makes it the most contested feeding ground on Gateway.
Level/Difficulty: Juvenile to adult Key Rewards: Delta Outpost cover, river drinking points, migration crossings
What to Do in River Delta
- River Delta tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
- Salt licks at Highlands, Water Access and the Swamp draw constant traffic. They are the best places to find prey and the worst places to stand still while eating.
- The endgame loop: run River Delta, optimize gear, push harder content.
- Experiment with Omniraptor for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
- This is where Mutations mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.
Phase 5 Checklist
- Endgame content on farm
- Best-in-slot gear acquired
- River Delta fully cleared
- Ready for challenge content
Common Progression Mistakes
- Sprinting everywhere as a juvenile, which burns stamina and water far faster than walking and puts you in the open where every mid tier carnivore is looking.
- Fighting instead of fleeing on a species built for fleeing. Dryosaurus, Hypsilophodon and juveniles of every species survive by distance, not by trading bites.
- Ignoring bleed and continuing to run, then dying at what looks like full health because the bleed track was never allowed to clot.
- Hunting solo as Omniraptor. The species is balanced around pack play and loses almost every one on one exchange against similar sized creatures.
- Logging out in the open at a drinking spot, leaving an unattended body in the most heavily trafficked part of the map.
Key Tips for Smooth Progression
- Treat thirst as the primary clock, not hunger. Water sources on Gateway are fixed points and every predator knows where they are, so drink early at a quiet pond rather than sprinting to a busy one on an empty bar.
- When you take bleed, stop. Running keeps the wound open and the bleed track will kill you at full health, while resting in cover for a short period lets it clot and costs you nothing but time.
- Use scent as prey, not just as a predator. A fresh large carnivore trail crossing your feeding area is the only warning you get before something faster than you arrives.
- Grow inside a triangle of a water source, a food source and hard cover. Wandering between distant regions as a juvenile is what kills most runs, not losing a fight you chose to take.
- Salt licks at Highlands, Water Access and the Swamp draw constant traffic. They are the best places to find prey and the worst places to stand still while eating.
