InnerSloth released Among Us in 2018 to almost no attention, then watched streamers turn it into the biggest game of 2020. Up to 15 players work a spaceship or base while one to three Impostors kill and sabotage, and every dispute gets settled in a voting meeting. Five maps, a role system added in 2021 and a separate Hide n Seek mode have kept it alive since.

Among Us features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.

The Skeld: Starting Area

The original spaceship and the smallest of the five maps. Electrical is the classic kill room because it sits off the main loop and connects to a vent, and Security cameras cover four corridors.

What to Do Here

MIRA HQ: Early Game

A single-floor building with no cameras and no vitals, replaced by a Doorlog at Communications that records who passed through. Its vent network is the most connected in the game, reaching nearly every room.

What to Do Here

  • Focus on mastering Sabotage timers. It's critical from this point on.
  • Farm for Vent travel if you don't have it yet.
  • Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
  • Prepare for the difficulty spike in Polus.

Polus: Mid Game

A large outdoor base where walking between rooms takes real time and bodies go undiscovered for minutes. It has Vitals, exterior cameras and a Seismic Stabilizers sabotage in place of Reactor.

The Airship: Late Game

The biggest map, with ladders, moving platforms and a spawn where every player picks a starting room. Its size makes proving anything hard, and the Vault and Records corridors are near-guaranteed kill spots.

What to Do Here

  • Full build optimization is expected by this point.
  • Kill should be your primary, fully upgraded.
  • Roles mastery starts mattering here.
  • Farm resources for the push into The Fungle.

The Fungle: Endgame

The 2023 island map, covered in fungus, with no Admin table and the Mushroom Mixup sabotage that briefly makes everyone look like a random crewmate. Impostors who plan around the confusion after a mixup do very well here.

What to Do Here

  • This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
  • See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
  • The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
  • Experiment with Shapeshifter for variety once you've mastered the meta.

Exploration Tips

  1. Clear areas in order: The Skeld → MIRA HQ → Polus → The Airship → The Fungle. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
  2. Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
  3. Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
  4. Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
  5. Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
