InnerSloth released Among Us in 2018 to almost no attention, then watched streamers turn it into the biggest game of 2020. Up to 15 players work a spaceship or base while one to three Impostors kill and sabotage, and every dispute gets settled in a voting meeting. Five maps, a role system added in 2021 and a separate Hide n Seek mode have kept it alive since.
Your choice of equipment defines your damage output and playstyle. This guide ranks every major option, explains what makes each one strong, and tells you which builds they pair best with.
Equipment Rankings
| Equipment | Tier | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kill | S | Isolated targets in rooms with no camera coverage and little foot traffic, such as Lower Engine on The Skeld or Specimen Room on Polus. | The Impostor's only direct action, gated by a host-set cooldown that usually runs between 10 and 45 seconds. |
| Vent travel | A | Escaping a kill room and repositioning far from the body before anyone reports it. | Vents move Impostors and Engineers between fixed points on each map. |
| Lights sabotage | A | Setting up kills in open areas such as Cafeteria or the Airship's Main Hall, where visibility is normally far too good. | Cuts crewmate vision down to a small circle while Impostor vision stays full. |
| Reactor and Oxygen sabotage | B | Splitting a group that has clumped together, and stalling a meeting that was about to eject you. | Timed sabotages that end the game if unfixed, and both require two players at separate panels. |
| Comms sabotage | B | Long games where the crew has been winning arguments using camera and Admin data. | Disables Admin, cameras and vitals and hides the task bar, and on MIRA HQ it scrambles the task list itself. |
S-Tier: Kill
The Impostor's only direct action, gated by a host-set cooldown that usually runs between 10 and 45 seconds. Kills are instant and silent to anyone outside the room, and the body stays until reported.

Equipment Progression Path
The order you should acquire equipment as you progress:
- Starting gear → Enough to clear The Skeld
- Vent travel → Your first real upgrade, available early
- Lights sabotage → Mid-game upgrade with good scaling
- Kill → Best-in-slot, aim for this by late game
- Upgrade to max → The power spike from max upgrades is enormous
Equipment Tips
- Always upgrade your primary equipment before diversifying. One strong option beats three mediocre ones.
- Match your equipment to your build's stat priorities for maximum scaling.
- Work tasks in the open and near other players. Being seen performing a real task animation is the only alibi in the game that does not depend on somebody choosing to believe you.
- Check our tier list for how equipment rankings affect overall build effectiveness.
