Phase 1: Getting Started (The Island)
The original starting map with varied biomes, all four guardian bosses, and a complete progression path.
Level/Difficulty: 1-100+ Key Rewards: Broodmother, Megapithecus, Dragon, and Overseer fights
What to Do in The Island
- Learn creature taming. Most creatures are tamed by knocking them out with torpor weapons, then feeding their preferred food while they sleep.
- Pick Giganotosaurus as your starting build. See our builds guide for why.
- Acquire your first equipment upgrade: Fabricated Sniper Rifle or whatever's available.
Phase 1 Checklist
- Understand creature taming fundamentals
- Giganotosaurus selected and functional
- The Island main content cleared
- Ready for Scorched Earth
Phase 2: Early Game (Scorched Earth)
A harsh desert map with sandstorms, heat management, and the Manticore boss.
Level/Difficulty: Mid game Key Rewards: Wyverns, desert resources, Manticore arena
What to Do in Scorched Earth
- Work on breeding and mutations. Breeding pairs produces offspring that inherit the higher stat from each parent, letting you stack the best lines into one super-creature.
- Farm for Fabricated Sniper Rifle if you haven't already.
- Complete all objectives before pushing to Aberration.
- Consider whether Rex might suit your playstyle better than Giganotosaurus.
Phase 2 Checklist
- breeding and mutations integrated into gameplay
- Fabricated Sniper Rifle acquired
- Scorched Earth fully cleared
- Ready for Aberration
Phase 3: Mid Game (Aberration)
A radioactive underground map of rifts and gliding traversal, home to Rockwell.
Level/Difficulty: Mid to late Key Rewards: Reaper and Rock Drake tames, charge mechanics, Rockwell
What to Do in Aberration
- Master boss arenas and tek tier. Summoning a boss requires tribute items and artifacts from cave runs.
- Start working toward Tek Rifle. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
- Start investing in base building for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.
Phase 3 Checklist
- boss arenas and tek tier mastered
- Tek Rifle acquired or in progress
- Aberration fully cleared
- Ready for Extinction
Phase 4: Late Game (Extinction)
A ruined Earth overrun by Titans and corrupted creatures, with element-rich endgame loops.
Level/Difficulty: Late game Key Rewards: Titans, Gacha and Velonasaur tames, element farming
What to Do in Extinction
- Finalize your build. You should be running Rex or Giganotosaurus with optimized gear.
- Tek Rifle should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
- cryopod management optimization starts here.
- Farm this area for the resources needed to push into The Center.
Phase 4 Checklist
- Build fully optimized
- Tek Rifle upgraded to max
- Extinction fully cleared
- Ready for The Center
Phase 5: Endgame (The Center)
A large free map of floating islands and underground oceans, great for scenic basing.
Level/Difficulty: 1-100+ Key Rewards: Boss arena, abundant resources, dramatic build spots
What to Do in The Center
- The Center tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
- The endgame loop: run The Center, optimize gear, push harder content.
- Experiment with Argentavis for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
- This is where cryopod management mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.
Phase 5 Checklist
- Endgame content on farm
- Best-in-slot gear acquired
- The Center fully cleared
- Ready for challenge content
Common Progression Mistakes
- Taming with raw meat or berries when kibble would tame faster and yield more levels.
- Chasing mutations before consolidating the best base stats into a clean breeding line.
- Building in thatch or wood, then losing the base to a wild Rex or a raid.
- Going into a boss arena without imprinted, bred creatures and a Yutyrannus buff.
- Leaving tames out in the open instead of cryopodding them for safety and transport.
Key Tips for Smooth Progression
- Tame an Argentavis as soon as you can, its weight and flight make every other grind easier.
- Cook the correct kibble for your target tame to cut taming time and gain higher post-tame stats.
- Breed for the best individual stats first, combining strong lines before you gamble on mutations.
- Keep tames in cryopods to move them safely and field an instant army at boss arenas.
- Upgrade your base to stone fast, thatch and wood fall to wild dinos and raiders alike.
