Astral Party is a free to play online board party game from STAR ENGINE PROJECT, published by Neverland Entertainment and released on Steam on 28 February 2024. Up to four players roll dice around anime styled boards carrying 15 panel effects, build hands of Battle and Effect cards, and settle encounters in one on one dice duels. The first player to spend coins on three level ups at a start point ends the match, and games commonly run 30 to 60 minutes.
Combat in Astral Party rewards knowledge over reflexes. Understanding how each mechanic works (and how they interact) is what turns a struggling player into a dominant one. New here? Start with our beginner's guide for the basics.
Core Combat Mechanics
1. Dice movement and panel effects
Each turn is a dice roll and a route choice, with a circle marker under your character showing the direction you will travel. Boards carry 15 panel types, from Fortune panels that hand over free cards through to shops, traps and event panels.
Why it matters: This is the foundation of all combat. Everything else builds on this.
2. Battle cards and Effect cards
Battle cards add flat attack or defence inside a duel, running from ATK UP (M) at plus 1 to 3 up to Legendary Sword: Gawu Cut at plus 1 to 20. Effect cards act on the board instead: Brick deals 5 damage, Snatch steals 5 coins, Random Portal teleports and Barricade stops a mover in their tracks.
Why it matters: The most underrated mechanic. Players who master this early have a massive advantage.
3. Duels with Defend or Evade
The attacker commits a Battle card, then the defender chooses Defend or Evade. Defending costs the difference between attack and defence, while evading only works if your dice beats theirs, and a failed evade eats the hit at full value.
Why it matters: Unlocks a new layer of gameplay depth once understood.
4. Character active and passive skills
Active skills sit on a three turn cooldown and passives run constantly. Fanny triggers an event at the end of her turn and banks 3 coins for it, Mimi discards her hand and redraws that amount plus one, and Alana buys herself a turn of trap and battle immunity.
Why it matters: The tactical edge that separates average players from advanced ones.
5. Coins, level ups and monsters
Coins are the entire economy, spent on level ups at a start point and lost to whoever takes them from you. Monsters wander the board, some attacking and some stealing coins, and a boss eventually goes after whoever is currently richest.
Why it matters: The endgame optimization mechanic. Small improvements here compound into massive gains.
How These Mechanics Combine
Understanding how mechanics interact is where real optimization happens:
Dice movement and panel effects + Battle cards and Effect cards
Each turn is a dice roll and a route choice, with a circle marker under your character showing the direction you will travel. When combined with Battle cards and Effect cards, battle cards add flat attack or defence inside a duel, running from atk up (m) at plus 1 to 3 up to legendary sword: gawu cut at plus 1 to 20. This combination is the core of every effective build.
Duels with Defend or Evade + Character active and passive skills
The attacker commits a Battle card, then the defender chooses Defend or Evade. Paired with Character active and passive skills, active skills sit on a three turn cooldown and passives run constantly. This is why the tier list favors builds that leverage both.
Coins, level ups and monsters as a Multiplier
Coins are the entire economy, spent on level ups at a start point and lost to whoever takes them from you. Monsters wander the board, some attacking and some stealing coins, and a boss eventually goes after whoever is currently richest. This system amplifies everything else. The better your Coins, level ups and monsters optimization, the more your other mechanics pay off.

Advanced Combat Techniques
Damage Optimization
- Match your equipment to your build's stat priorities
- Exploit Dice movement and panel effects for maximum damage windows
- Chain Battle cards and Effect cards and Duels with Defend or Evade for combo damage
- Use Character active and passive skills to create openings
Survivability
- Learn enemy patterns before committing to attacks
- Create a room instead of using Quick Match. Lobbies fill faster when you host and pick the board, and it lets you set a map whose gimmick suits your character rather than taking whatever the queue gives you.
- Position using Dice movement and panel effects to control spacing
- Save defensive options for guaranteed survival, not comfort
Boss Combat
Bosses test your understanding of every mechanic. See our boss guide for fight-specific strategies.
- Phase awareness: Most bosses change behavior at health thresholds
- Patience over aggression: One extra hit per opening beats dying to greed
- Build preparation: Swap gear and equipment for specific fights when needed
Common Combat Mistakes
- Button mashing: Committed attacks have recovery frames. Mashing locks you into animations.
- Ignoring Battle cards and Effect cards: This mechanic exists for a reason. Players who use it take significantly less damage.
- Wrong equipment for the situation: Check our weapons guide for situational picks.
- Not learning from deaths: Every death teaches something. If you don't know why you died, you'll die the same way again.
- Overcommitting: Trading hits works in Amusement Park but will get you killed in Forest Adventure.
