Q: Is Brave Souls on Steam the same game as the mobile version?

Yes. The Steam release arrived on 17 August 2020 and uses the same account and the same servers as iOS and Android, so you can play on PC and phone interchangeably and your roster follows you. Cross-platform multiplayer works too, which matters for Co-Op Quests and Epic Raids where you need other players to fill the party.

Q: Which characters should I aim for?

No honest guide can answer that with a fixed list. KLab has released new characters continuously since 2015, and the strongest units rotate as new banners and reworks land. What does not change is the systems: attribute counters, matching Killer abilities to enemy Affiliation, and finishing a character to level 200 with a 150 percent Soul Tree. Build around those and check a community list dated within the last few weeks for current specifics.

Q: What do link slots actually do?

Characters at 3 stars and above have link slots, and whichever character you place in a slot passes its Soul Trait to the base character. Only one slot is open at first; the rest unlock by levelling the Slot Souls on the Soul Tree. This is why low rarity characters with good traits are worth keeping rather than feeding away as ascension material.

Q: When does Transcendence unlock?

The Extra Stat Boost Slot opens once a character's Special Move hits level 5. From there Transcendence Points buy rolls on the Extra Stat Boost Lottery, and a duplicate of the same character unlocks the better Super Extra Stat Boost Lottery. Each Basic Stat Boost Slot can be set to Stamina, Attack, Defense, Focus or Spiritual Pressure.

Q: Do I have to spend money to progress?

No, but it is a gacha and the pacing reflects that. Spirit Orbs come from Story Quests, events, daily logins and mode rewards, and free players accumulate them slowly enough that discipline about which banners to pull on matters more than pull count. The systems that decide clear speed, meaning Soul Tree completion, link slot traits and attribute matching, are all earned through play rather than purchase.

Weapons Analysis

Normal attack chains: The free, cooldown-free damage that carries most clears. Normal Attack Damage, shortened to NAD by the community, is boosted by preferential NAD Soul Traits sitting in link slots and by attack accessories.

Strong Attack: Higher damage per input than a normal chain but gated behind a cooldown. Reduced strong attack cooldown Soul Traits and preferential Strong Attack Damage traits are what turn this from a filler input into a build.

Special Move: Each character's signature attack, fully voiced by the original Japanese anime cast. Its level matters for more than damage: taking a Special Move to level 5 is what opens the Extra Stat Boost Slot for Transcendence.

Accessories: Equippable items that add stats on top of level, Soul Tree and links. They are the fastest layer to change between quests because swapping an accessory takes seconds and costs nothing, unlike ascending or feeding reinforcement stones.

Killer abilities: Bonus damage against enemies of a matching Affiliation, such as Soul Reaper Killer against Soul Reaper enemies. Quest enemy Affiliations are fixed and visible before you start, so this is a check you can always make.
