Cornerpond is a fishing idler from foolsroom, released on 21 April 2025, designed to sit in a small window in the corner of your screen while you do something else. Your character casts automatically and only asks for input when a big catch bites, and the money from selling fish buys rod, bait, and inventory upgrades. The store page advertises five biomes and more than 100 fish to log in the journal.
This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.

See our maps guide for detailed area breakdowns.
Phase 1: Getting Started (Lake)
The starting spot and the only one you can return to for free, which matters because every other destination charges per visit. It is where the early journal entries and your first few thousand in cash come from.
Level/Difficulty: Start of the game Key Rewards: Starter journal entries, the money that funds the Beach unlock
What to Do in Lake
- Learn Automatic casting. The character fishes on their own with no input, which is the whole point of the format. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
- Pick Orb Power as your starting build. See our builds guide for why.
- Treat Fish Inventory as the first real upgrade. A full bag stops earning entirely, so capacity decides how long you can leave the game alone, which is the whole reason to play an idler.
- Acquire your first equipment upgrade: Minnow or whatever's available.
- Clear all main content before moving on.
Phase 1 Checklist
- Understand Automatic casting fundamentals
- Orb Power selected and functional
- Lake main content cleared
- Ready for Beach
Phase 2: Early Game (Beach)
The first paid destination. A community guide lists 5000 to unlock and 200 for each visit, so do not unlock it until Fish Inventory can carry a trip worth the travel cost.
Level/Difficulty: After roughly 5000 banked Key Rewards: A second journal set, higher value fish than the Lake
What to Do in Beach
- Work on Big catch prompts. Most catches resolve without you, but occasionally a larger fish requires attention. This system becomes critical from here on.
- Farm for Minnow if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
- Unlocking a location does not travel you there. The unlock and the trip are separate payments, and the Beach at 5000 to unlock plus 200 per visit sets the pattern for everything after it.
- Complete all objectives before pushing to Arctic.
- Consider whether Rod Power might suit your playstyle better than Orb Power.
Phase 2 Checklist
- Big catch prompts integrated into gameplay
- Minnow acquired
- Beach fully cleared
- Ready for Arctic
Phase 3: Mid Game (Arctic)
The third destination in the community location list. Costs are higher than the Beach and the fish are worth more, which is where bait quality starts paying for itself.
Level/Difficulty: Mid-game Key Rewards: Mid-tier journal entries, better per-fish sale value
What to Do in Arctic
- Master Travel fees per location. Locations must be unlocked once and then paid for on each visit. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
- Start working toward Worms. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
- Returning to the Lake is free. If you are stepping away without enough bait for a paid biome, park at the Lake rather than idling somewhere that charged you to arrive.
- This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
- Start investing in Bait tiers for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.
Phase 3 Checklist
- Travel fees per location mastered
- Worms acquired or in progress
- Arctic fully cleared
- Ready for Catacombs
Phase 4: Late Game (Catacombs)
A later destination and a tonal break from the outdoor biomes. By this point Max Bait Capacity matters more than Rod Power because trips are long and travel costs recur.
Level/Difficulty: Late mid-game Key Rewards: Rarer journal entries, higher value catches
What to Do in Catacombs
- Finalize your build. You should be running Rod Power or Orb Power with optimized gear.
- Worms should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
- Buy bait to capacity immediately after selling. Running dry mid-session is the most common way people lose hours of idle progress in this game.
- Journal completion optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
- Farm this area for the resources needed to push into Cosmos.
Phase 4 Checklist
- Build fully optimized
- Worms upgraded to max
- Catacombs fully cleared
- Ready for Cosmos
Phase 5: Endgame (Cosmos)
The last destination in the community list, which also names a Sky location between the Catacombs and here. Note that the Steam page advertises five biomes while community guides list six spots including the starting Lake.
Level/Difficulty: Endgame Key Rewards: Final journal entries, the highest value fish in the game
What to Do in Cosmos
- Cosmos tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
- Quests unlock at level 7 and give three to eight slots as you upgrade. They complete passively, which makes them one of the better returns for a game you are not watching.
- The endgame loop: run Cosmos, optimize gear, push harder content.
- Experiment with Quests for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
- This is where Journal completion mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.
Phase 5 Checklist
- Endgame content on farm
- Best-in-slot gear acquired
- Cosmos fully cleared
- Ready for challenge content
Common Progression Mistakes
- Pushing Rod Power while Fish Inventory stays low, so the bag fills and earning stops
- Paying 5000 to open the Beach and forgetting the 200 fee applies to every single trip
- Idling with an empty bait stock after a big sale
- Assuming a new biome is bugged when its quests have not reset yet
- Spending on elixirs during a session you are going to minimize anyway
Key Tips for Smooth Progression
- Treat Fish Inventory as the first real upgrade. A full bag stops earning entirely, so capacity decides how long you can leave the game alone, which is the whole reason to play an idler.
- Unlocking a location does not travel you there. The unlock and the trip are separate payments, and the Beach at 5000 to unlock plus 200 per visit sets the pattern for everything after it.
- Returning to the Lake is free. If you are stepping away without enough bait for a paid biome, park at the Lake rather than idling somewhere that charged you to arrive.
- Buy bait to capacity immediately after selling. Running dry mid-session is the most common way people lose hours of idle progress in this game.
- Quests unlock at level 7 and give three to eight slots as you upgrade. They complete passively, which makes them one of the better returns for a game you are not watching.
