DDraceNetwork is a free, open source cooperative 2D precision platformer built on the Teeworlds engine, and it arrived on Steam on 17 August 2020. Up to 64 players share one server and drag each other through thousands of community maps using a grappling hook and a hammer. Official servers run across 14 countries, and every finish feeds a single global points table holding over 33,000 points.

Boss fights are where DDraceNetwork tests everything you've learned. This guide covers strategies for bosses across all areas, organized by progression order. For general combat techniques, see our combat guide.

Novice Bosses

Area difficulty: Easy Recommended level: First 20 hours Recommended role: Rank chaser with Hammer

Strategy

The first bosses teach core combat mechanics. Focus on learning patterns rather than dealing damage. The hook reaches roughly 11 blocks and accelerates you toward whatever it grabs until you hit the cap of about 20 blocks per second. This is your primary tool here.

Key tips:

  • Don't rush. Learn the attack patterns first.
  • Use Grappling hook movement to create safe windows.
  • Hammer is enough to handle everything here.

Moderate Bosses

Area difficulty: Moderate Recommended level: After roughly 100 Novice finishes Recommended role: Rank chaser with Hammer

Strategy

Early game bosses test your understanding of Freeze and deep freeze tiles. Players who skipped learning this mechanic will hit a wall here.

Key tips:

  • Freeze and deep freeze tiles is critical for these fights.
  • Farm Hammer upgrades if you're struggling.
  • Consider switching to Rank chaser if your current setup isn't working.

Brutal Bosses

Area difficulty: Hard Recommended level: Several hundred hours in Recommended role: Novice runner with Hook

Strategy

Mid-game bosses are the major skill check. They combine multiple mechanics and punish players who rely on a single strategy.

Key tips:

  • You need both Grappling hook movement and Hammer unfreezing mastery.
  • Hook makes a significant difference. Get it before attempting these.
  • See our combat guide for advanced techniques.

Insane Bosses

Area difficulty: Very Hard Recommended level: Veteran only Recommended role: Novice runner with Hook

Strategy

Late-game bosses are serious challenges. Build optimization matters as much as mechanical skill.

Key tips:

  • Make sure your build is fully optimized.
  • Hook at max upgrade is recommended.
  • Study each boss's attack patterns. Most have 2-3 phases.

Solo Bosses

Area difficulty: Extreme Recommended level: Any, difficulty varies map to map Recommended role: Novice runner with Hook

Strategy

Endgame bosses are the ultimate test. They require mastery of all combat systems and an optimized build.

Key tips:

  • Top-tier build with best-in-slot gear is mandatory.
  • Master every mechanic. See our combat guide.
  • These fights reward patience and pattern recognition above all else.

General Boss Tips

  1. Learn before you fight: Spend your first attempt observing attack patterns. Don't try to win on attempt one.
  2. Match your build: Some bosses favor certain builds over others. Don't be afraid to switch.
  3. Upgrade your weapons: A max-upgraded Hook trivializes fights that seem impossible with weaker gear.
  4. Use Grappling hook movement: The core combat mechanic is your best defensive tool in every boss fight.
  5. Check the walkthrough: Our walkthrough tells you when you're ready for each boss.
