DDraceNetwork is a free, open source cooperative 2D precision platformer built on the Teeworlds engine, and it arrived on Steam on 17 August 2020. Up to 64 players share one server and drag each other through thousands of community maps using a grappling hook and a hammer. Official servers run across 14 countries, and every finish feeds a single global points table holding over 33,000 points.
DDraceNetwork features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.
Area Progression Order
| Order | Location | Difficulty | Key Rewards | Recommended Role |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Novice | First 20 hours | Low risk points, hook fundamentals, a feel for team play | Rank chaser |
| 2 | Moderate | After roughly 100 Novice finishes | 5 to 15 points per map, first real hookfly and shotgun parts | Rank chaser |
| 3 | Brutal | Several hundred hours in | 15 to 30 points per map, save code discipline, reliable partners | Novice runner |
| 4 | Insane | Veteran only | 30 to 50 points per map, a name on leaderboards most players never touch | Novice runner |
| 5 | Solo | Any, difficulty varies map to map | Points without needing a group, plus clean practice for movement technique | Novice runner |
Novice: Starting Area
The entry category and the largest one, meant to be finished by a group rather than a soloist. Star ratings run from 0 to 5, paying 1 point up to 6 points per map.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | First 20 hours |
| Key Rewards | Low risk points, hook fundamentals, a feel for team play |
| Recommended Role | Rank chaser |
| Key Weapons | Hammer |
What to Do Here
- Learn the basics of Grappling hook movement. This is where you practice without heavy punishment.
- Collect starting resources and your first weapons upgrade.
- Clear all main content before moving to Moderate.
- If you're struggling, read our beginner's guide.
Moderate: Early Game
The step where parts stop forgiving sloppy hook timing. A 0 star Moderate map already pays 5 points, which is more than any Novice map.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | After roughly 100 Novice finishes |
| Key Rewards | 5 to 15 points per map, first real hookfly and shotgun parts |
| Recommended Role | Rank chaser |
| Key Weapons | Hammer |
What to Do Here
- Focus on mastering Freeze and deep freeze tiles. It's critical from this point on.
- Farm for Hammer if you don't have it yet.
- Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
- Prepare for the difficulty spike in Brutal.
Brutal: Mid Game
Long maps with sections that assume you can hammerfly and rocket jump on demand. A 3 star Brutal map pays 24 points, so a handful of finishes moves your global rank noticeably.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Several hundred hours in |
| Key Rewards | 15 to 30 points per map, save code discipline, reliable partners |
| Recommended Role | Novice runner |
| Key Weapons | Hammer |
What to Do Here
- This is the main skill check. Bring an optimized build.
- Hook becomes accessible here. Prioritize getting it.
- Master Hammer unfreezing for the boss encounters.
- Check our boss guide if you get stuck.
Insane: Late Game
The hardest team category, where single parts can take a week of attempts. These maps sit at the top of the points table and many have only a few dozen finishers worldwide.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Veteran only |
| Key Rewards | 30 to 50 points per map, a name on leaderboards most players never touch |
| Recommended Role | Novice runner |
| Key Weapons | Hook |
What to Do Here
- Full build optimization is expected by this point.
- Hook should be your primary, fully upgraded.
- Points scaled by map difficulty mastery starts mattering here.
- Farm resources for the push into Solo.
Solo: Endgame
Maps designed to be completed alone, with no teammates and no dummy interference, though chat stays open. This is the category to use when nobody else is online in your region.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Any, difficulty varies map to map |
| Key Rewards | Points without needing a group, plus clean practice for movement technique |
| Recommended Role | Novice runner |
| Key Weapons | Hook |
What to Do Here
- This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
- See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
- The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
- Experiment with Map maker for variety once you've mastered the meta.
Exploration Tips
- Clear areas in order: Novice → Moderate → Brutal → Insane → Solo. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
- Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
- Match your weapons: Some areas favor different weapons types.
- Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
- Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
