Nimble Neuron's Eternal Return left early access on July 20, 2023 after three years, and it drops eight teams of three onto Lumia Island for 24 players a match. It plays like a MOBA folded into a battle royale: you level skills, farm wild animals for materials, and craft gear from recipes instead of buying it from a shop. There is no shrinking ring, only restricted areas that go red on a timer, and eliminations buy that timer back.

Eternal Return features distinct areas with increasing difficulty. This guide covers every major location in progression order: what to do, what to get, and when to move on. For the step-by-step path, see our walkthrough.

Forest: Starting Area

One of the four areas that connect to the Research Center exits, and a common early farming stop because wild animals there feed both mastery experience and crafting components.

Uptown: Early Game

An urban area with dense building geometry, which makes it strong for ambushes and awkward for ranged characters trying to hold a sightline.

Key EquipmentRapier

What to Do Here

  • Focus on mastering Weapon Mastery breakpoints. It's critical from this point on.
  • Farm for Rapier if you don't have it yet.
  • Complete all objectives for maximum rewards.
  • Prepare for the difficulty spike in Hospital.

Hospital: Mid Game

A named interior area on the island, valuable early because the components stocked in a building area are gathered faster than those spread across open ground.

Beach: Late Game

An open coastal area on the edge of the map. Wide sightlines favour ranged characters, and the exposure makes it a poor place to be caught by a restricted area timer.

Key EquipmentTwo-handed Sword

What to Do Here

  • Full build optimization is expected by this point.
  • Two-handed Sword should be your primary, fully upgraded.
  • Hyperloops and supply drops mastery starts mattering here.
  • Farm resources for the push into Research Center.

Research Center: Endgame

The central objective area, with four exits leading to Avenue, Forest, School and Cemetery. Wickeline spawns at one of those exits at the start of night 4, always choosing a route into a non restricted area.

Key EquipmentTwo-handed Sword

What to Do Here

  • This is endgame. Best-in-slot gear and a perfected build are mandatory.
  • See our boss guide for endgame fight strategies.
  • The reward loop: clear content → upgrade → push harder content.
  • Experiment with Yuki for variety once you've mastered the meta.

Exploration Tips

  1. Clear areas in order: Forest → Uptown → Hospital → Beach → Research Center. Skipping areas means missing resources you'll need later.
  2. Check every corner: Hidden caches and secrets are often in non-obvious locations.
  3. Match your equipment: Some areas favor different equipment types.
  4. Read the walkthrough: Our walkthrough provides exact progression milestones for each area.
  5. Don't rush: Clearing an area fully gives more resources than speedrunning two areas.
