LEVEL-5 released FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time on May 21, 2025 after two delays from its original 2023 announcement. You move between a wrecked present day island and the same island as it stood a thousand years earlier, carrying materials and knowledge across the gap to rebuild it. Fourteen Lives split into four combat, four gathering and six crafting jobs, and one character can hold all of them at once.

This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. New to the game? Start with our beginner's guide first.

Phase 1: Getting Started (Mysteria Island)

Where the game opens, both in its ruined present state and as the thriving island of a thousand years earlier with the Capital of Mysteria at its centre. You leave it at the end of Chapter 1 aboard the Bone Dragon.

Level/Difficulty: Chapter 1 Key Rewards: First Life Licences, the island build plot, story access to Ginormosia

What to Do in Mysteria Island

  1. Learn Fourteen swappable Lives. Four combat Lives, four gathering Lives and six crafting Lives all sit on one character, and you switch between them at any moment. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
  2. Pick Mercenary as your starting build. See our builds guide for why.
  3. Light the tower in a new region before doing anything else in it. Each of the 15 Ginormosia towers reveals a large slice of the local map and then works as a fast travel anchor, which turns a region from a maze into a checklist.
  4. Acquire your first equipment upgrade: Greatswords or whatever's available.
  5. Clear all main content before moving on.

Phase 1 Checklist

  • Understand Fourteen swappable Lives fundamentals
  • Mercenary selected and functional
  • Mysteria Island main content cleared
  • Ready for Ginormosia

Phase 2: Early Game (Ginormosia)

The large continent that opens after Chapter 1, made up of 15 regions each carrying its own tower. It holds the bulk of the 20 shrines, 75 Leafes and 16 Legendary Recipes.

Level/Difficulty: Post Chapter 1 onward Key Rewards: Towers, shrines, Leafes, Legendary Recipes, field bosses

What to Do in Ginormosia

  1. Work on Life ranks and Life Challenges. Every Life Licence has ten ranks starting at Novice and moving through Fledgling and Apprentice. This system becomes critical from here on.
  2. Farm for Greatswords if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
  3. Life ranks move on Life Challenges, not on time spent. Open the challenge list for your active Life before you head out, pick a route that clears several at once, and report back to that Life's Master to bank the rank points.
  4. Complete all objectives before pushing to East Dryridge Desert.
  5. Consider whether Paladin might suit your playstyle better than Mercenary.

Phase 2 Checklist

  • Life ranks and Life Challenges integrated into gameplay
  • Greatswords acquired
  • Ginormosia fully cleared
  • Ready for East Dryridge Desert

Phase 3: Mid Game (East Dryridge Desert)

One of the two Dryridge desert regions and home to the settlement of Haniwa Hamlet. Desert regions run hot and open, which makes the tower climb the first job on arrival.

Level/Difficulty: Early to mid Ginormosia Key Rewards: Haniwa Hamlet access, regional tower, desert gathering nodes

What to Do in East Dryridge Desert

  1. Master Two era time travel. The island you find in the present is ruined, while the version a thousand years earlier is intact and populated. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
  2. Start working toward Swords. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
  3. Rank at least one gathering Life ahead of the crafting Life it feeds. A Blacksmith stalls without Miner ore and a Cook stalls without Angler and Farmer output, so the crafting wall is almost always a gathering problem.
  4. This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
  5. Start investing in Island rebuilding and terrain shaping for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.

Phase 3 Checklist

  • Two era time travel mastered
  • Swords acquired or in progress
  • East Dryridge Desert fully cleared
  • Ready for Shroomhaven

Phase 4: Late Game (Shroomhaven)

A fungal region built around Simian Settlement, with terrain and gathering nodes that differ sharply from the desert and plains regions either side of it.

Level/Difficulty: Mid Ginormosia Key Rewards: Simian Settlement access, regional tower, shrine entrances

What to Do in Shroomhaven

  1. Finalize your build. You should be running Paladin or Mercenary with optimized gear.
  2. Swords should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
  3. Switching Lives costs you nothing, so use the right one for the job in front of you rather than picking a favourite. Progress on all fourteen is stored separately and none of it decays while you play something else.
  4. Ginormosia towers and shrines optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
  5. Farm this area for the resources needed to push into Fangshore Isles.

Phase 4 Checklist

  • Build fully optimized
  • Swords upgraded to max
  • Shroomhaven fully cleared
  • Ready for Fangshore Isles

Phase 5: Endgame (Fangshore Isles)

The coastal island chain holding Tortortoise Town, and the natural home for Angler work once your rod has been ranked up through a few Life ranks.

Level/Difficulty: Mid to late Ginormosia Key Rewards: Tortortoise Town access, coastal fishing spots, regional tower

What to Do in Fangshore Isles

  1. Fangshore Isles tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
  2. Shrines are short mini dungeons rather than long expeditions, and there are 20 of them. Clearing one when you pass it is far cheaper than routing back later for a completion sweep.
  3. The endgame loop: run Fangshore Isles, optimize gear, push harder content.
  4. Experiment with Artist for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
  5. This is where Ginormosia towers and shrines mastery separates good players from great ones. See our tips guide for advanced strategies.

Phase 5 Checklist

  • Endgame content on farm
  • Best-in-slot gear acquired
  • Fangshore Isles fully cleared
  • Ready for challenge content

Common Progression Mistakes

  • Locking into a single combat Life and hitting a material wall because no gathering Life was ranked
  • Grinding monsters for Life rank instead of clearing and reporting Life Challenges
  • Running past a region's tower, then exploring the whole area with the map still blacked out
  • Placing island buildings before shaping the terrain, which forces a rebuild later
  • Selling rare gathered materials for money when a crafting Life needs them for a Legendary Recipe

Key Tips for Smooth Progression

  1. Light the tower in a new region before doing anything else in it. Each of the 15 Ginormosia towers reveals a large slice of the local map and then works as a fast travel anchor, which turns a region from a maze into a checklist.
  2. Life ranks move on Life Challenges, not on time spent. Open the challenge list for your active Life before you head out, pick a route that clears several at once, and report back to that Life's Master to bank the rank points.
  3. Rank at least one gathering Life ahead of the crafting Life it feeds. A Blacksmith stalls without Miner ore and a Cook stalls without Angler and Farmer output, so the crafting wall is almost always a gathering problem.
  4. Switching Lives costs you nothing, so use the right one for the job in front of you rather than picking a favourite. Progress on all fourteen is stored separately and none of it decays while you play something else.
  5. Shrines are short mini dungeons rather than long expeditions, and there are 20 of them. Clearing one when you pass it is far cheaper than routing back later for a completion sweep.
