Phase 1: Getting Started (Starting lighthouse waters)
The opening area around the lighthouse. Low value fish, few hazards, and the place where you fund your first upgrades before anything else opens up.

What to Do in Starting lighthouse waters
- Learn Automatic fishing on approach. You never cast or time a bite. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
- Pick Idle farm investor as your starting build. See our builds guide for why.
- The first goal is automation, not income. Everything gets easier once bots and the Idle Fish Farm earn while you are not steering, so prioritise the upgrades that remove you from the loop over the ones that make you personally faster.
- Acquire your first equipment upgrade: Storage capacity or whatever's available.
- Clear all main content before moving on.

What to Do in Fish Kingdoms
- Work on Boat steering and obstacles. Moment to moment play is steering toward schools while avoiding hazards. This system becomes critical from here on.
- Farm for Storage capacity if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
- Delivery bots outperform fishing bots early. Hauling catch back to sell is the bottleneck before catch rate is, so a bot that carries beats a bot that fishes until your hold upgrades have caught up.
- Complete all objectives before pushing to Idle Fish Farm.
- Consider whether Active steerer might suit your playstyle better than Idle farm investor.
Phase 2 Checklist

Phase 3: Mid Game (Idle Fish Farm)
A passive income screen rather than a fishing spot. Investment here pays out while you are away, which is why a session often opens with money already waiting.

What to Do in Idle Fish Farm
- Master Idle Fish Farm. The passive income system. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
- Start working toward Fishing speed. It's the best equipment and becomes accessible around now.
- Multi line rods multiply catch rate rather than adding to it. When the choice is a multi line upgrade or another tier of flat fishing speed, the multiplier is almost always the better purchase.
- This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
- Start investing in Bots Shop for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.

- Currency Exchange optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.

- Experiment with Upgrade rusher for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.

Common Progression Mistakes
- Grinding manually long after automation is available. The design intends the boat to become a management screen, and steering every catch by hand caps income at the length of your attention span.
- Crafting every tier of every item the moment it unlocks. Only craft what raises efficiency, because currency spent on dead end tiers is currency not spent on a multiplier.
- Spreading currency evenly across every upgrade. Steep price scaling means one line taken several tiers deep outperforms five lines taken one tier each.
- Selling Roe at the first opportunity. It is a premium exchange item and the early trades available for it are poor value next to what it buys later.
- Pushing into new waters with no defence upgrades. Hazards and bosses in later biomes stall you completely, and retreating costs more time than the upgrade would have.
