Free Wing put this free sandbox Three Kingdoms RPG into Early Access on 25 March 2025, published with NPC Entertainment. Three battle systems run in parallel: real time legion warfare, turn based martial arts duels and turn based verbal debates, all fed by a general's military, martial and intellectual souls. Interface, audio and subtitles are Simplified Chinese only, which is the single largest barrier for English speaking players despite a Very Positive rating across roughly 6,600 reviews.

Your choice of equipment defines your damage output and playstyle. This guide ranks every major option, explains what makes each one strong, and tells you which builds they pair best with.

Equipment Progression Path

The order you should acquire equipment as you progress:

  1. Starting gear → Enough to clear Guandu
  2. Martial Soul → Your first real upgrade, available early
  3. Intellectual Soul → Mid-game upgrade with good scaling
  4. Military Soul → Best-in-slot, aim for this by late game
  5. Upgrade to max → The power spike from max upgrades is enormous

Equipment Tips

  • Always upgrade your primary equipment before diversifying. One strong option beats three mediocre ones.
  • Match your equipment to your build's stat priorities for maximum scaling.
  • The game ships with Simplified Chinese interface, audio and subtitles only. Before starting, look up one of the Steam community guides explaining how to play it in English, because menu density is high and the domestic affairs panels are unusable if you cannot read them.
  • Check our tier list for how equipment rankings affect overall build effectiveness.
